The Board is winding up with its editing of the Strategic Plan and will have before
the Council during a June meeting.
Concern was expressed for the forthcoming completion of the Higuera Street Bridge.
Mdse McChrskey outlined the remainder of the project and its timing. Mike invited
concerned members-to contact his Public Works coordinator regarding details. Mice also
informed the Board about this year's downtown street paving project and the hours that
the contractor would be in and out of the downtown. It appears that disruption to
downtown activities will be held to a minimum
The greatest concern of Board members was focused on the Council's action on the
PDAP's`low—hanging&nit." Specifically, they wanted the Councilto know that they
wish to be included-in-the process that-establishes programs which would be funded by
the Parking Fundus well as evaluating the results. I assured them that as the formulator
of the Council's motion, I had no intention of cutting them out of the process..
McCluskey described the RFP process vis-a-vis the"dog leg"Mission Plaza extension
project. I described the project as outlined in the Downtown Concept Plan and noted how
that plan visualized the development of compensatory parking.
Committee Chairs gave brief reports of which two stood out: (1)The stolen "Cat and the
Fiddle"sculpture has been replaced—same piece(re-cast), same location,but more
securely anchored Another sculpture entitled `Symbiosis"by Allan Root has been
installed on Choro Street adjacent to the Chamber of Commerce. The design of the bases
on which sculptures are to be mounted has turned out to be more expensive than
anticipated and-the Design Committee is searching-for alternative bases; (2)The
Criterium event received a goodly amount of criticism—it appears that organizers did not
live up to expectations. Several businesses decided to close. Advertising of the event
and the cleanup were less than satisfactory.
Whenever I attend a DTA meeting I always come away amazed at the amount of time
and work that is volunteered by downtown business people to keep our downtown the
lively and beautiful place that it is.
