Re: Program Development Request #/'
Conversion of Downtown Light Standards, Signal Standards and '?"Posts from
Sorrento Green to Forest Green color
As a follow up to the Council's 41 action to change the color of vertical"street
fiuniture"in our Downtown, I recommend that the Council.direct our CAO to have the
Public Works Department prepare a detailed program to implement this decision.
This program to include as a minimum:
L. A count of all signal standards by type, light standards, "P"posts and other
miscellaneous vertical street furniture that exist in the Downtown Area. In this
case the Downtown Area is defined to include Pacific, Marsh, and Higuera from
the Marsh Street interchange to Johnson Avenue and Monterey and Palm Street
from Johnson Avenue to their terminus at Nipomo,plus the cross streets of
Johnson, Torro, Santa Rosa, Osos, Chorro, Broad,Nipomo and Beach from Palm
(or ffiguera)to Pacific. (My presumption is that the newly clad parking meter
posts will remain Sorrento Green. If this is incorrect, then a count, conversion
time schedule and costs for converting the color of parking meter posts from
Sorrento Green to Forest Green should also be included in this program.)
2. A time schedule for conversion of each of these pieces of street finniture from
Sorrento Green to Forest Green by.
(a) Replacement of the existing hardware by factory new power coated pieces;
(b) Renovation of existing hardware with new power coating(I understand that
a shop to do this work exists in Carpenteria);
(c) Painting of existing hardware in place with Forest Green until such time as
replacement or renovation can be budgeted.
3. A cost estimate for each conversion including removal and disposal of existing
piece and erection of a new or renovated piece.
I would life to see this program returned to the City Council in 120 days or less, and that
no color conversions be made until the information contained in this report is reviewed
by the City Council.
