Approve the change order for $61,200 for changes to the Laguna Lift Station and Force Main Upgrade. 2. Authorize the City Administrative Officer to execute the change order. DISCUSSION The Laguna Lift Station and force main upgrade project is nearing completion. This project will replace the existing lift station and force main that was overcapacity, well past its intended operational life, and requiring significant maintenance. The upgraded lift station will serve new and proposed annexations areas per the City's General Plan and existing customers. During the installation of the force main several conflicts with unidentified underground utilities and other items were encountered that resulted in delays and changes to the construction, alignment and depth of the pipe. The force main is the discharge pipe from the pumps at the lift station and is under pressure during pumping. During survey and design the Utilities staff and the consultant worked diligently to determine the location and depth of all the underground utilities. The majority of the conflicts were with utilities that were very old and abandoned, not shown on existing drawings or was at different depths or alignments. These utilities have now been documented and this information will be utilized for future projects such as the water reuse project. The changes to the force main were made over one year ago to alleviate delays with this project. These changes were deemed the best options to complete the forcemain portion of the project. It was only recently that this change order was prepared because of delays and problems with the contractor submitting the proper information to the City's engineering inspector. FISCAL IMPACT The cost for changes to the forcemain is $61,200.00.
