Subject: Mayor's Youth Task Force
The Mayor's Youth Task Force was created in 1995/96 with the purpose of providing more healthy
alternatives for youth. It is funded by a City line item account of$17,500, some County funds and
some grant funds. It meets on the 2"d Thursday of each month and considers requests for funding of
worthy recipients involved with providing healthy alternatives for the youth of our community.
The Mission Statement of the Mayor's Youth Task Force reads as follows:
"The San Luis Obispo Mayor's Youth Task Force partners with youth to encourage healthy
choices through opportunity, leadership and understanding."
Since 1999,the Task Force has distributed over$17,000 annually to grant recipients who serve
children/youth who reside in the City and whose programs promote asset development.
During the past five month period,the Task Force has distributed grant funds to the follow programs:
$1,000.00 for the SLO County Asset Development Conference
$3,000.00 for the Friday Night Live Middle School Challenge Day
$1,000.00 for the San Luis Obispo High School Sober Grad Night
$1,000.00 for the San Luis Obispo 24 hour Relay Challenge
$3,000.00 for the C.L. Smith Elementary RECESS program
