HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/19/2003, - DAMON GARCIA SPORTS COMPLEX My name is Bill Wilson and I live at 1690 Southwood Dr in SLO. I am here regarding the DamonGarcia sports complex. I would like to make a request. It relates to Ken Hampian's comment in his Tribune Viewpoint letter. Ken stated in the letter that the northerly alignment of Prado Rd offered the most advantages when compared to the Industrial Way or Tank Fane Rd aligmnents. I would like to know where Ken obtained the information that supports his statement because I am having difficulty in locating a traffic study or an environmental study that is comprehensive enough in nature to support such a conclusion. I can't find a reasonable comprehensive traffic study that has been done on the connection of Prado Rd to Tank Farm Rd.. The information in past staff reports, Initial Studies, and Negative Declarations, do not have comprehensive facts or studies regarding the Prado Rd/Tank Farm Rd alignment. Everyone keeps referring me to the future Margarita EIR and it's forthcoming analysis of Prado Rd. I have no confidence that this will be the answer. In the meantime, Prado Rd marches on and viable alternatives like Industrial Way are are disappearing. Right now there is no certified EIR on the Margarita area, or the Airport area, or the sports field project, or the Prado Rd alignment, or even on the 2000 General Plan Prado Rd circulation Element Amendment. Those are subjects for another day. Like Ken, I too, want the road alignment which offers the ".._.greatest benefit to the greatest number of people over the long haul". But I also want the safest and most environmentally friendliest alignment. Public Works should have a comprehensive traffic study on Prado Rd connecting to Tank Farm Rd because they have been working on this project since 1997. They should have good studies available to support their position on this controversial alignment. Could I have a copy or could someone let me know how to obtain a copy sometime this week? I would also lice to request that the Council put the subject of Prado Rd realignment through the sports complex property onto the council agenda as soon as possible. We need to address n suWatewr becausefollow road alignmentsr are contracted to be installed very s These issues will not slow down progress of the sports fields. Also the possibility still exists that we are creating hazards with this road alignment through the sports fields project. Our children deserve the very best and the safest sports complex we can provide. Thank You ",/ 0 1 BILL WILSON 1690 SOUTHWOOD DR SLO,CALIF.93401
