Re: Downtown Association Board of Directors meeting of August 5, 2003
This meeting consisted of fairly routine reports from officers, and committee chairs.
Concerns continue to be expressed regarding the disruption created in the downtown by
the `Century Project.' DTA staff has tried mightily to keep everyone apprised about the
Copeland Project and less apprehension was expressed about that project. There seemed
to be a general belief that existing parking structures would be able to handle the extra
parking demand once those who used the Court Street parking lot discover how to thread
their ways to the structures.
Mardi Gras and the Vintage Car show still perplex some who question the benefit that
these events bring to the downtown.
Representatives of businesses in the vicinity of Mission Mall are very pleased that the
commercial loading zone consisting of four curb parking spaces will soon be moved to
Broad Street between Higuera and Monterey. The move is likely to occur in two two-
space stages due to the seismic retrofitting project that is occurring on the comer building
of Broad and FEguera. The complaint has been that these spaces are primarily used by
beer trucks delivering their products to nearby taverns at all hours accompanied by the
noise of refrigeration compressors and the exhaust fumes from idling engines that is very
disturbing to customers ofnearby retail establishments.
Two dates for the Council to remember.
1. DTA Quarterly Breakfast(Mother's) September 5 @ 7:30am
2. Taste of San Luis(Mission Plaza) September 17, evening
