COUNTYWIDE OZONE TRENDS - 1994-2003
The following graphs depict ozone trends at six locations within the county for the past ten years
(eight at Nipomo). Each data bar represents the total number of hours in a given year in which
the ozone concentrations exceeded 65 parts per billion. This concentration level is a useful
indicator for trend.purposes even though there are no health standards for single-hour exposures
to 65 parts per billion of ozone. No data was collected for Nipomo in 1997 and 1998 during
Which time the station was relocated. Monitoringresumed at Nipomo in November 1998.

Particulate Matter, 10 microns or less (PM10)
The graphs on this page present PM,o particulate data from six locations. In 2003, there were
exceedances of the state standard of 50 micrograms per cubic meter in our county on six of the sixty-
one days sampling occurred. Most of the exceedances occurred at two monitoring stations on the
Nipomo Mesa. All monitoring sites in the county recorded.elevated particulate levels on October 24,
2003 due to wildland fires burning in Southern California.

Please note that the current state annual PM,o standard of 20 ug/m3 was adopted in July 2003. This new
annual standard is now an arithmetic mean rather than an annual geometric mean. It was exceeded in
2003 at our Morro Bay, Nipomo Regional Park, and Guadalupe Road monitoring stations.
Particulate Matter, 2.5 microns or.less (PM2,5)
Monitoring for fine particulate matter(PM25)began.in 1999 and is performed at two locations in San
Luis Obispo County:the San Luis Obispo and Atascadero monitoring stations. The federal standard
for PM25 is 65 micrograms per cubic meter, and California has not set a 24 hourPMz.5 standard.
