Why do you want to be a member of the Personnel Board? I know how difficult it is to get citizen volunteers to serve on advisory bodies, and I am confident my knowledge of Human Resource management will be an asset to this particular board. 2. What do you hope to accomplish? My profession has caused me to acquire a great deal of knowledge regarding the Human Resource function in organizations. On specific topics I believe relevant to this body, I have come to know quite a bit about procedural justice and public sector employment relations. I would hope to make this knowledge available to the Board, and also hope to add mature, informed, objective judgment to Board deliberations over any employment-related appeals we may hear during my membership. 3. Have you ever attended a meeting of a City advisory body? If so, what observations did you make? No ATTACHMENT 1 supplemental questionname — peusonnel Boaz) pace 2 4. What qualities, experience and expertise make you a good candidate for the Personnel Board? e A Ph.D. in Human Resource Management • 25+ years University- level teaching experience in HRM • Past experience as a mediator of public sector labor disputes (resolving bargaining impasses: Iowa, 1985-7) • HR consulting experience in the areas of contingent employment and compensation 0 Current general field and specific topic research expertise on a variety of labor and employment issues (see publications listed on attached CV). 5. In your view, what might be some key personnel-related issues in SLO? How to do more, with less: endemically tight budgets in the public sector can lead to highly stressful conditions for both public employees and their managers. In such an environment, it is essential that the City continue to seek out the most creative solutions to workplace problems available. 6. Is there any additional information about yourself you'd like to share? (Please feel free to attach a resume, if you have one).
