SUBJECT: APPOINTMENT RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE PROMOTIONAL
COORDINATING COMM=E (PCC)
RECOMMENDATION
1. Reappoint Deborah Nicklas to a four-year term beginning on April 1, 2005 and expiring
on March 31, 2009.
2. Reappoint George Newland to a one-year term beginning on April 1, 2005 and expiring
on March 31, 2006.
DISCUSSION
Deborah Nicklas and George Newland's terms expire on the Promotional Coordinating
Committee on March 31, 2005. Ms. Nicklas has reapplied and is eligible to serve an additional
four-year term. Mr. Newland has reapplied and is eligible to serve a one-year term. After
advertising and interviewing eight applicants, the Council Subcommittee is pleased to
recommend reappointing Deborah Nicklas for a four-year term and George Newland for a one-
year term.

Promotional Coordinating Committee Application
Why do you want to be a member of the Promotional Coordinating Committee?
I have enjoyed serving on this committee for the past four years. I believe we have
accomplished a great deal under very challenging times. This Committee is very action
oriented and is careful to monitor results. I also believe that I have contributed to the
process and outcomes utilizing my marketing and public relations skills. It has been a
very rewarding experience.
What do you hope to accomplish?
I hope to continue our efforts to increase tourist visits to the City through our branding
and advertising campaigns as well as our efforts to establish promotional partnerships
with other local organizations.
Have you ever attended a PCC meeting or a meeting of any other City advisory
body? If so,what observations did you make?
I have served on the PCC for four years and appreciate the teamwork between the
members, contractors and staff.
What unique qualities, experience and expertise would you bring to the PCC?
I have 24 years of experience in marketing, public relations, and business development.
During my career, I have held marketing management positions in both not-for-profit and
for-profit organizations, mainly in the healthcare industry. I am a part-time marketing
lecturer for the Cal Poly School of Business and I also provide on occasion consulting
services to local businesses in the areas of marketing and public relations.
