SUBJECT: ADOPTION OF STAND S FOR WATER RECYCLING PROGRAM
CAO RECOMMENDATION:
By motion, adopt changes to existing standards and adopt new standards relating to the design,
construction, and operation of recycled water facilities.
DISCUSSION:
The reclaimed water improvements at the City's Water Reclamation Facility are expected to be
completed by June of this year. Once the improvements are complete and the facilities are
brought online, staff will begin working to connect user sites to the recycled water distribution
system. The proposed standard revisions and new standards are necessary to ensure recycled
water facilities are safe, reliable, and consistent in terms of materials and installations.
These standards will be incorporated into the City's Engineering Standards and Standard
Specifications, and may require revision from time to time, in order to stay current with new
materials, technology, and regulatory requirements. Any revisions deemed appropriate or
necessary will be brought back to Council annually for adoption with any other standard
revisions.
For clarity, the proposed standards have been divided into three groups; proposed new standards,
proposed changes to existing standards, and proposed changes to the standard specifications.
Due to the length and highly technical nature of these documents, they have not been copied with
this report. However, they are available in the Council Reading File and on-line at
www.slocity.org/cityclerk/agendas/council.asp.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Adopting new and revised standards results in no fiscal impact.
ALTERNATIVES:
Do not adopt recycled water standards. This alternative is not recommended, since the standard
revisions and new standards are necessary for the proper design and construction of facilities
needed in order to effectively utilize the City's recycled water resource.
