DISCUSSION Bud Evans, a political science lecturer Cal Poly, is seeking the use of the City's name in promoting a dinner aimed at "engaging as broad a spectrum of the San Luis Obispo County community as possible in a dialogue on world hunger issues." Under the Communications section of the Council meeting of May 2, 2006, Vice Mayor Settle asked the Council to place on the agenda this sponsorship request. Per our Sponsorship Policy, lending the City's name to any event requires Council approval. The Council concurred with this request. There will be a variety of information booths and foods at the dinner and other ways of shedding light on the problem of hunger in our area, and throughout the world. Several local government officials from the County and cities have already committed to attending the dinner, and staff has also passed the announcement on to the Human Relations Commission. Staff believes that this event is a worthy one and is consistent with the City's support for social service causes. Therefore, staff is recommending adding our name to the organizations shown in the attached announcement. Mr. Evans felt that Council action on May 16`h would still be of significant value to his goals for the event. FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact associated with this sponsorship. The request is strictly related to the use of the City's name in promoting the event. ATTACHMENTS 1.
