Walter, Public Works Director Prepared By: Sergio Reyes, Engineering Technician SUBJECT: WATER IMPROVEMENT PROJECT SPEC. NO. 90694 CAO RECOMMENDATION 1. Approve plans and specifications for the"Water Improvement Project Spec. No. 90694". 2. Authorize staff to advertise for bids and authorize the CAO to award the contract if the lowest responsible bid is within the Engineer's Estimate of$347,405. DISCUSSION BACKGROUND Replacement of the water distribution pipes, mainlines and related infrastructure is an ongoing program. Growth within the City limits and more stringent fire protection regulations have placed increased demands on the water distribution system. Some City water facilities are improperly sized, are made of inferior materials, and/or are deteriorating due to age. Some water lines in the City are over 100 years old. This program has three objectives: 1. Ensure reliable water service 2. Reduce the need for emergency repairs 3. Enhance available fire flow. CURRENT This project will replace portions of waterlines in South, Brook,and Sydney Streets. The waterlines being replaced are 45 to 75 years old and have deteriorated to the point in which repeated emergency repairs have been required. The waterlines in South and Brook Streets are in paving area 2 which is scheduled to be paved in 2009 and the waterline in Sydney Street is in area 4 which is scheduled to be paved in 201 L CONCURRENCES The Community Development Department has filed a Notice of Exemption for this project. FISCAL IMPACT This project was approved for funding in the 2005-2007 Financial Plan, Appendix B pages 77- 81. Funding in the amount of$395,478 is currently available in the Water Distribution System Improvement main account. C3--/ Water Improvement Project Spec.
