On be of Governor Schwarzenegger, we are pleased to inform you that,your
applicati for funding under the Fiscal Year 2007/08 Bicycle Transportation Account
(BTA)program has been approved.
In addition to improving safety and convenience for bicycle commuters, the BTA
program improves mobility, reduces traffic congestion, improves bicycle/transit
connectivity, protects the environment, saves energy, and encourages increased physical
activity, which can help reduce obesity.
Please visit the BTA website at http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq.LocalPrograms for information
about the State funds reserved for your project and a listing.of all projects approved for
funding.
The list of projects complements the Governor's Strategic Growth Plan for transportation,
which reduces congestion below today's levels while accommodating future
transportation needs due to growth in the population and the economy. The Governor's
Strategic Growth Plan incorporates GoCalifornia, a plan designed to decrease congestion,.
improve travel times, and increase safety while providing another opportunity for the
State of California to work with local officials, community leaders, and stakeholders to
further the following objectives while enhancing mobility: (1) develop more efficient
land use patterns to assure sufficient housing is available to meet the needs of an

increased population and workforce; (2)reduce dependence on single occupant vehicle
trips; (3) foster neighborhood and project designs that enable more walking and biking
for healthier communities; (4) minimize impacts on valuable habitat and productive
farmland; (5) increase resource use efficiency, including energy, water, and building
materials conservation; and (6) reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality.
In accepting this grant, your organization agrees to be a partner with the State in our
common mission to improve mobility and the quality of life in California. Your efforts
will help integrate land use, housing, and transportation to achieve a prosperous
economy, quality of environment, and equity for all people.
