SUBJECT: APPOINTMENTS TO THE CULTURAL HERITAGE
COMMITTEE (CHC) AND THE PROMOTIONAL
COORDINATING COMMITTEE (PCC)
RECOMMENDATION
In accordance with the recommendations of the Council Subcommittees, make appointments to
the City's advisory bodies as follows:
Cultural Heritage Committee(Subcommittee Members Marx and Romero)
Appoint Enrica Costello to the Cultural Heritage Committee (CHC) effective July 6, 2010, and
expiring on March 31, 2014.
Promotional Coordinating Committee(Subcommittee Members Carter and Settle)
Appoint Marilyn Fidler to the Promotional Coordinating Committee (PCC) effective July 6,
2010, and expiring on March 31, 2012.
DISCUSSION
Due to the resignation of Dean Miller on May 4, 2010, there is one unscheduled vacancy on the
Cultural Heritage Committee(CHC). In compliance with the Maddy Act, a notice was posted for
this vacancy. Three applications were received. Council Liaison Subcommittee Members Jan
Marx and Dave Romero conducted interviews with the three applicants on June 3, 2010.
Following the interviews, the Council Liaison Subcommittee recommended the appointment of
Enrica Costello.
On June 16, 2010, Terry Conner resigned from the Promotional Coordinating Committee(PCC).
Mr. Conner's term was to expire on March 31, 2012. Staff posted the vacancy as required,but
received no new applications. Marilyn Fidler was appointed to the PCC on August 4, 2009, to
fill an unscheduled vacancy which tern expired March 31, 2010. Per Council Policies and
Procedures, Chapter 6, Section 6.7.3, Ms. Fidler reapplied to the PCC; however, she was
unavailable for an interview. At that time, she requested that her application remain on file so
that she may be considered for a future vacancy on the PCC.

Because Ms. Fidler had successfully interviewed during the past year and was considered well
qualified, the Council Subcommittee members Andrew Carter and Allen Settle agreed to waive
the interview process for this position and recommend Ms. Fidler for immediate appointment.
