On June 20th, councilmembers continued this item to the' council's July 5th hearing to allow additional study of alternatives. The US Postal Service has distributed requests for proposals to merchants in the Foothill Plaza, hoping to provide a manned postal service center within one of the businesses in the shopping center. It's a return to an old-fashioned but effective approach to providing neighborhood mail services, and staff believes this could provide an excellent alternative to the kiosk. The postmaster is hoping for responses'to the RFP by late July. In the interim, the postal service would rather not reactivate the kiosk until the feasibility of the manned service center is known. Staff believes it would be premature to act on the appeal at this time, and recommends that the council continue this item to the council's August 15th agenda. jh3/ccmemo I%NG AGENDA DATE % ITEM # I Denotes lt*n by Lead PSon E I r sound by:`_ }. S Aki 8 t ou1161 Ao ry A.
