CAO RECOMMENDATION:
By motion, approve plans and specifications for the Laguna Lake
Golf Course, Driving Range Safety Screen, -City Plan No. N-45Y;
Authorize Staff to advertise for bids; Authorize the CAO to Award
a contract if within Engineer's Estimate.
BACKGROUND:
The driving range at the Laguna Lake Golf Course has been shut down
and the screen removed because the screen has deteriorated and does
not provide adequate protection to the adjacent properties or to
people . in the area.
This project will provide the protection needed to safely operate a
driving range at this location. The design of the protective
screening has been changed to provide better protection than that
provided by the previous screening when it was new.
Completion of this project will allow the driving range to function
again and will increase revenue at the golf course by $1 ,500 per
month.
P.urchasing .Procedure
The provisions of Purchasing Control Manual Section PC-403-3 apply to
this contract.
Coordination.
The Community Development Department has made an environmental
determination that this project is categorically exempt from the need
to file an Environmental Impact Report.
Fiscal- Impact
Engineer's estimate $ 2.7 ,000.00
The FY 1987-89 Capital Reinvestment Plan estimated this work to be
$7, 500 for materials with work to be. done by City crews . At that
time, staff envisioned that only the netting on the existing cage
would have to be replaced. More detailed investigation showed that

several poles which are bent would have to be removed, and that the
direction that balls are driven should be changed to reduce City
liability. Finally, the basic design of the driving cage was changed
to reflect the. approach recommended by golf course architects.
Recommendation
By motion, approve plans and specifications for the Laguna Lake Golf
Course, Driving Range Safety ,Screen, City Plan No. N-45Y; Authorize
Staff to advertise for bids; Authorize the CAO to Award a contract if
within Engineer ' s Estimate.
Plans and specifications are available in the Council Office for
review
