Vander Horst AST Good Neighbor Day Chair RE: Good Neighbor Day .Funding po "Students Serving Their Community" is the theme of this year's seventh annual Good Neighbor Day (GND) to be held on Saturday, May 5, by the Associated Students Inc. of Cal Poly. This community wide event is an event that allows the students of Cal Poly to lend a helping hand to the elderly and handicapped citizens of San Luis Obispo. Following is a brief description of the event and what it's all about. For the seventh year in a row, students will assemble on the lawn of the Cal Poly Theater. From there, job assignments will be distributed and students will disperse into the community to assist community members with needy projects. Work to be done includes simple tasks such as window washing, weed pulling, painting, and general clean up tasks that might not otherwise be completed. In addition to individual requests for work, community awareness groups will also be given work assistance upon request. This year, OND will work in conjunction with the Downtown Business Improvement Association's SLO Sweep. On the same morning of GND, approximately 100 students will arrive downtown at 7:30 am to assist merchants in a general clean up of the downtown area. This year, over 1000 students are expected to participate as it is expected to be the largest, most effective GND ever. Our request for $200 from the city will be added to our general budget for expenses such As posters, promotion items and adverstisements costs. Because our budget is Very limited, this funding would be of great assistance to the success of this community wide event. If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact myself at 756-1291. Thanks for your consideration. C- ASSOCIATED STUDENTS, INC. EXECUTIVE OFFICE JULIAN A.
