I'm proposing to read this letter to the Council at the very beginning of the meeting as its contents do not pertain to any of tomorrow's agenda items . Thanks ! - Allan Regarding : November 10, 2012 Staff Review of 550 Dana Street (Recommended Majo r Modification of a Historically Listed Property) and March 26, 2007 CHC Review of 868 Chorr o Street (Recommended Demolition of Another Historically Listed Property ) Dear Mayor and fellow Council Members : On November 10, 2012, staff planner Pam Ricci reviewed alterations proposed for 550 Dan a Street and determined that the handicap ramp flanking both sides of the said property was a "minor and incidental" alteration to a historically-listed property . It is clear, in this case, that th e *changes to the property are not "minor and incidental" and that these decisions should not resid e within the exclusive purview of a staff planner . Save Our Downtown believes that any alteration s to a "historically listed property" should be first reviewed by the Cultural Heritage Committee . 1 Save Our Downtown has also been concerned that the circa 1870 clapboard addition to th e ancillas/Frietas Adobe at 868 Chorro Street (which qualified for listing on the Nationa l Register)should be demolished as was determined by both CHC and Council back in 2007.868 Chorro should be revisited because the City has recently been elevated to the status of a "Stat e Sponsored Certified Local Government". Being a Certified Local Government (CLG) require s that the City must adopt and use the Secretary of the Interior's Standards thereby providing criteria for project evaluation . Save Our Downtown does not believe that either decision bearing on the current alterations to 550 Dana Street or the proposed demolition of a portion of 868 Chorro Street conform to thes e criteria and indeed appear arbitrary and capricious .
