COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
FROM: Ren Hampian, Assistant City Administrative Officerv
SUBJECT: Final Passage of Recycled Product Procurement Ordinance
CAO RECOMMENDATION: Give final passage to Ordinance No. 1178
establishing a recycled product procurement policy for the City
organization.
DISCUSSION:
On September 4, 1990, the City Council introduced an ordinance to
establish a recycled product procurement policy for the City
organization. The purpose of the ordinance is to assure that the
City's purchasing policies encourage the use of recycled products
and provide recycled product suppliers with opportunities to
compete with non-recycled products during bid procedures.
As a part of the Council's action, the Council directed staff to
work with the County's Recycling Coordinator to learn more about
the range of products available using recycled material, and to
explore the potential for establishing a backyard composting
program. Staff will follow-up on both of these matters.
