Thank you . t I wanted to write and attempt to convey to you my ongoing support that has not waned since I first read about the efforts and meetings for a new San Luis Obispo Skatepark in the local newspaper about five years ago . M y e has changed (but not my support) as I will be 44 next month, but please read my below letter to the Ton y wk Foundation I gave to Christine Wallace when she still worked for Parks and Recs which she then sent t o THF . It has taken far too long for this skatepark to be built . Tony Hawk agreed whole heartedly we build th e skatepark and gave us the hightest THF grant that year . Just because we change parks and recs employees an d elected city council members why did and does the momentum have to diminish? Please make building th e future SLO Skatepark your priority the way it was designed . Thank you for reading .. My name is Scott Bollin . I am in the California Army National Guard (full-time) and at 40 years of age hav e been a lifelong skateboarder . I am also a skate park advocate and was on the Reid Meltzer Memorial Skate park Committee in York, Pennsylvania (please see www .reidmenzermemorialskatepark .org)and also helped to raise money for the project . It was without a doubt the most exiting and rewarding thing I have ever been involved in and thanks partly to the Tony Hawk Foundation's generosity they had their Grand Opening Ceremony o n September 6 `h ,2008 .I moved to San Luis Obispo, California area three months before the Grand Openin g because I had already accepted a job here but finally got to skate the park in August 2009 .The feeling that I go t there was that it was very appreciated . Every section of that really fun skate park is being used by many ecstati c skateboarders . San Luis Obispo, California is another city that not only wants a skate park but absolutely needs and deserves a skate park. California Polytechnic State University is here . The city is host to more skaters than I have ever see n in one location except a facility built for skateboarding . Santa Rosa Park is home to a very lackluster an d dilapidated fenced-in skateboarding space . This is unthinkable since I look around and ask myself why a n absolutely beautiful surf and skateboard influenced college town does not have a world-class skate park? Whe n ived to the area I read about plans for a future skate park and attended quite a few of the meetings . Closed s and Recreation meetings, design meetings, and the meeting at SLO City Hall that gave us the final go an d thumbs up to move forward with the fundraising as they were very impressed with what many skaters (and non - skaters) had to say about the immense need for a skate park of this caliber . They were also impressed with th e design that we collaborated on . A skate park like this would bring competitions to the area bringing economic growth and would benefit many of the surf and skate shops that are very much supporting the ongoing efforts i n raising money for this wonderful project . We are all so very motivated but need your awesome help in makin g this happen . San Luis Obispo is a city that realizes a permanent skateboarding facility will provide a place for it's youth , adults and diverse population to realize their potential through skateboarding . It will offer a positive place fo r recreational classes, demonstrations, and day camps . Thanks very much for your consideration in helpin g develop this kind of facility and make abundant this great sport to the city of San Luis Obispo . Sincerely , Scott Bolli n (805)723-433 3 • 2
