I moved to Leff St just as the Shandroffs started throwing a tantrum about my neighbor growing their medication. They
asked if my neighbor was going to keep growing. My neighbor expressed he was indeed going to continue, it's his
medication! Not soon after that, there were knocks on the door from every agency around the community, an attempt
to BULLY him to stop. Before the photo of the backyard was even published, the plants were taken down anyways, and
the person growing them hasn't grown outside since. The Shandroffs continued to bully, because they think they're
"right" and that medical marijuana smells "offensive ".
You know what's offensive to me? Having a picture taken of MY apartment and seeing it published multiple times, with
those plants in the backyard. It gives me anxiety and panic EVERY time. Voiding me of my privacy and attaching me to
the events going on that surround me. Only AFTER the Shandroffs continued to harrass and the location was published,
was there people slowly driving by. People were looking for that, possibly to steal someone's medication. I've felt a
threat to MY safety caused by this whole ordeal, caused by the publishing of the photo and the Shandroff's continued
harrassment.
What is offensive smelling to one is not always offensive to everyone. There are all sorts of things I find "offensive" in
SLO. I have not been complaining about them, because we're all going to be offended by something. You're wasting
yours and everyone else's time and tax dollars to appease a very small handful of people. Why doesn't the city spend
time and tax dollars giving the homeless homes? It's offensive to me that you're not!
Just as well, you are banning outdoor cultivation by labeling it as something else. If the odor ban passes, you are banning
people from being able to grow their own medication simply because a neighbor doesn't like it or agree with it. How are
you planning to differentiate 3 or more neighbors saying they're offended because they don't personally agree with
medical marijuana, as opposed to actually being effected by it? The Shandroff's claimed to have had the smell stick to
them simply by living next door to it. This is a LIE and impossible, as they were never in that back yard touching it or
smoking it and that's the only way you will ever smell like it. I've been closer to that garden than they have and the smell
didn't stick to me! How will people get medication if this odor ban passes?
Growing outdoors is the least expensive way. Not everyone can afford to grow indoors and not everyone can afford to
purchase from dispensaries. So what I hear you telling us is, we cannot grow our own medication outside. So therefore,
at some point we will no longer have any affordable access to "legally" obtain our medication without fear of offending
someone and being fined. The City council, San Luis Obispo, and the Shandroffs will be taking away that affordable
option from the medical marijuana patients of San Luis Obispo. If the ban passes, then are you going to give us a way to
access our medication more affordably? If you don't give us that, then you will cause many people to suffer.
Fix the larger problems. House the homeless! It's very clear to me that San Luis Obispo is more interested in the money
it brings into the city and not helping the residents of SLO that are suffering. You're wasting our tax dollars on something
so petty. I hope you find a better solution than giving into the bullies.
