I understand what the intent was in approving this past December a new rental ordinance: to eliminate rental abuses and protect tenant'rights. Good ideas perhaps but also easily abusive, it seems to me. It potentially tars every rental property owner with the same brush and costs all landlords money to boot. Yes, I'm a landlord and I'm pleased to report that a number of our tenants have rented from us for years. Our recordoccupancy to date is 36 years. In another case, Section 8 is involved, with a yearly inspection already required. So you're going to require a second inspection as well and pay someone to do it? We regard our tenants as our customers and treat them accordingly. We immediately fix any necessary repairs. We have tenants have become our friends and who come back to visit when they are in town. You already have laws on the books to enforce minimum health and safety requirements. In my opinion he system should essentially remain complaint driven. Adding another costly layer of bureaucracy is unneeded. It's a solution looking for a problem. Alex Gough ( RECEIVED APR 2 0 2015 SLO CITY CLERK COUNCIL MEETING: 05 `b5 -11 ITEM NO.: =1
