Subject: Housing inspection program
I have been coming to SLO since the 1960's and since 1994, when our oldest child came to Cal Poly, we have been there
at least once a month. Since 1994 all four of our children have attended and graduated from Cal Poly. Two of our
children have gotten married and still reside in SLO in rental housing. I see this idea of an inspection program a burden
on those who own rental property. SLO is one of the few towns that you have to have a business license to own rental
property. If past this program will have one of two effects. It will either lower property values or increase cost of living
for students and young families. Over the past twenty + years we have spent a lot of time in SLO and the one noticeable
change is that the downtown area is not as clean and quaint as it once was. I would concentrate the city councils efforts
on revitalizing the downtown area and leave the violations of health and safety in housing to the health dept if violations
are that serious. Don't just create another tax and burden on the property owners in your city. RW
