Subject: Proposed rental inspection ordinance
Dear Jan and Katie,

COUNCIL MEETING: "05 " 7
ITEM NO.:___ _
I have listened to most of the arguments about the proposed ordinance and believe passage should be postponed
for more community input. I am rental property owner in SLO and have a license for it. I agree that there are
problems with a small minority of landlords.
With regard to that, 1. I believe that an effort to get all rentals licensed (40% currently estimated to be
unlicensed) would provide the additional revenue needed to beef up code enforcement. 2. Use the additional
staff to respond to complaints. 3. Avoid the many years of angst and controversy that passing this ordinance in
haste will cause.
