I realize that it would take several years until completion. Which makes it very necessary to start the process now. Getting the EIR for this project should be done as soon ASAP. Being a downtown business owner, Downtown Association Board member, and on the Paking committee I see this parking need played out every day. Add on to that the loss of parking with the China town project as well as the several mixed use projects planned for our downtown area, parking demand is only going to get higher. As a city we need to get ahead of that growth with planned parking. A parking structure like this fits in perfect with the long term goal of our Downtown, Parking on the boarder and foot traffic in the central corridor. Looking to other Downtown's you will see similar structures to accommodate parking needs. I understand our town is a not as accustom to having to resort to structures, but as our population grows the smart expansion is multiple levels of parking in designated areas. The only argument I have heard against this structure is that it will not be utilized. I think this is a fairly short sited perspective. We need to plan long term. Once upon a time we didn't need a parking structure, now we have 3. With more more mixed use comes more Downtown residence, more areas for businesses, and more parking stress. You can already see parking issues with the neighborhoods surrounding the Downtown area. This will have to be addressed sooner or later. If we plan to grow then we need to accommodate that growth or we will push shoppers elsewhere. With Downtown being such a large tax base for SLO it would be in all our best interest to keep shoppers and patrons localized and not sprawling. Okay, okay I will let it be. I think you get my point;) Thank you all for you hard work and service. Being on the Board has given me a whole new respect for you all do. A lot of opinions in this little town. See you all soon I'm sure, Aaron Gomez www.siblin sjewelr San Luis Obispo, Ca 93401 — 1'L°CffPE D MAY 0 6 2015 LO CITY CLERK COUNCIL MEETING: ITEM N0.:_-RhZQQ 06M O144 Our resources are finite, let's use them with care!
