PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE 1341 NIPOMO STREET CALL TO ORDER: Chair Rappa called the meeting to order at 7:06 p.m. ROLL CALL: Chair Penny Rappa, Committee Members Ron Batterson, Wes Conner, Bonnie Marzio, Marion Rodman, and Martha Schwartz. ABSENT: Committee Member Katchy Andrews STAFF: Elaina Cano, Wendy Munshaur, Rich Ogden, Larry Tolson, and Kim Walker PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment. CONSENT ITEMS: M/S Committee Members Conner/Rodman to accept the consent items as submitted. The motion was approved unanimously. M/S Committee Members Rappa/Conner to change Item #1 to Committee Member Resignation. The motion was approved unanimously. ITEM #1: COMMITTEE MEMBER RESIGNATION Chair Rappa informed the committee that Katchy Andrews has submitted her letter of resignation to the City Council. M/S Committee Members Conner/Rappa to accept Katchy Andrews’ resignation and to appoint her as a Member Emeritus. The motion was approved unanimously. M/S Committee Members Batterson/Schwartz to continue having seven members on the Jack House Committee. The motion was approved unanimously. M/S Committee Members Rappa/Conner to offer the position to any interested family member and the public. The motion was approved unanimously. Chair Rappa will recommend to the Council that she would like to be involved in the interview process. By consensus, the Committee agreed to review and discuss t he reservation policy and procedures of the Jack House and Garden at next month’s meeting. ITEM #2: 25TH ANNIVERSARY Committee Member Schwartz suggested having a 25th Anniversary celebration. Schwartz submitted a draft copy of the invitation, program, guest list, and letter to Mayor Settle. The Committee discussed having this special event at a later date and promoting the 25th Anniversary throughout the year. M/S Committee Members Batterson/Conner to hold the 25th Anniversary Celebration in conjunction with the first summer concert on July 16. The motion was approved unanimously. M/S Committee Members Conner/Batterson to hold the re-dedication ceremony from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on July 16, 2000, and tours and concert to follow the ceremony until 4:00 p.m. The motion was approved unanimously. By consensus, the Committee agreed to advertise the 25th Anniversary throughout the year. ITEM #3: MOTHER’S DAY Kim Walker, Public Information Officer, submitted an overview of the Mother’s Day Concert. ITEM #4: GIFTS AND DONATIONS M/S Committee Members Rappa/Rodman to continue discussion after seeking direction from family heir as to the $2000 donation. After further discussion Chair Rappa withdrew the motion. M/S Committee Members Batterson/Conner to have the $2000 donation footnoted on the financial report. The motion was approved unanimously. ITEM #5: SUPERVISOR’S REPORT Rich Ogden, Recreation Supervisor, submitted quotes to purchase additional brochures. M/S Committee Members Conner/Schwartz to order 10,000 brochures for approximately $1725.05. The motion was approved unanimously. ITEM #6: REPORTS AND UPDATES  Publicity – Walker requested $300 for advertising in the Home and Garden section of the Tribune. M/S Committee Members Conner/Schwartz to honor Walker’s request for $300 for additional advertising in the Home and Garden section of the Tribune. The motion was approved unanimously.  Monthly Activities – Larry Tolson, Parks Maintenance Supervisor, reported that, with all the rain, the re-seeding has been delayed. Tolson also reported that the Carriage House plans were completed but with the change in building codes this project will also be delayed. Tolson suggested focusing on new carpet for the house. Conner informed the Committee that the bark in the Garden has been replaced.  Docent Activity – Martha Schwartz, Docent Chair, summarized her recent docent meeting.
