HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-13-02 JHC MinutesJack House Committee MINUTES Parks and Recreation Administrative Office Wednesday, March 13, 2002 7:00 p.m. CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson Ron Batterson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. ROLL CALL: Chair Ron Batterson, Commissioners Wes Conner, Penny Rappa, Martha Schwartz, John Tischler ABSENT: Commissioners Bonnie Marzio and Marion Rodman STAFF: Rich Ogden, Larry Tolson, and Heather Freebairn PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: Ken Schwartz voiced concerns about The Manse Marsh expansion on the corner of Marsh and Beach Streets. Schwartz explained the impact the expansion project would have on a structure that seems to meet the California Historical Society criteria as a historic building. The Parks and Recreation Commission is now deciding the fate of the building. Schwartz further summarized possible outcomes and how a decision to move the structure may impact the Jack House Committee. CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES AND FINANCIAL REPORT: The minutes of the February 13, 2002 meeting were approved with the following amendments: Item #2 change to read “There was no motion to adopt the Work Program at this time.” Item # 1: Carriage House To be in compliance with the Brown Act, Penny Rappa removed herself from the Carriage House Sub- Committee.  Committee brainstormed possible uses for the Carriage House.  Committee discussed the proper name for the structure. The Carriage House Sub-Committee will research proper name.  Sub-Committee to evaluate tagged items that are in storage and decide possible use.  Discussion ensued on possible uses of the loft area in the Carriage House. Items #2: Art in the Garden Parks and Recreation staff member Kim Walker addressed the Committee on this year’s Art in the Garden event, which will be co-sponsored by the Arts Council. Artist, Roseanne Seitz will assist in the event. The following time line was presented:  Event date: August 11, 2002 Time: 12:00-7:00 pm.  April - Official call to artists to submit applications.  May – Selection of artists.  June – Final judging of artists that will participate in the event.  The white panels that are used to display art have been secured with the county. Martha Schwartz and Rappa will assist with publicity. It was decided to keep the participating artists to 38 and to use last year’s art logo. Committee showed an interest in expanding the food menu. Rappa suggested enforcing being open on Thursday and adding Sundays. Schwartz will take Rappa’s suggestion to the Docents and report on results during the next Jack House meeting. It was requested that Rich Ogden present to the Committee a quarterly attendance report. Item #4: Sunshade A memorandum will be written to all interested parties. Item#5: Reports and Updates  Letters have been sent to all wedding parties regarding parking arrangements.  Three more parking spaces have been made available for weddings. The total parking spaces now available for wedding parties is now five.  Piano strings have arrived.  Grounds work continues to go forward.  Conner expressed concerns about a dying tree limb and the liability it could present.  Schwartz displayed kitchen floor tile samples. A selection was made.  Docent Bylaws will be brought into the Recreation Office for Administrative Supervisor McDonald to update.  Connor has located floodgates and will identify with signage. Meeting adjourned at 9:18 pm to the April 10, 2002 regular meeting at 7:00 pm.
