HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-12-02 JHC MinutesJack House Committee MINUTES Parks and Recreation Administrative Office Wednesday, June 12, 2002 CALL TO ORDER: Vice-Chairperson Wes Conner called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. ROLL CALL: Committee Members Wes Conner, Gerry Johnson, Bill Pyper, Marion Rodman, Martha Schwartz, and John Tischler Absent: Chairperson, Ron Batterson STAFF: Rich Ogden, Larry Tolson, and Heather Freebairn. PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: There was no public comment. CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES AND FINANCIAL REPORT: The minutes of the May 8, 2002 meeting were approved with the following amendments:  Omit Larry Tolson from Staff section. Financial report of June 2002 was accepted as presented. Item # 1: Art In The Garden Rozanne Seitz reported on progress and update of the event.  46 artists applied and 35 artists have been selected to display their work.  Artists were selected on quality, balance and range.  Many artists are providing their own white tents however 7 small tents are still required.  Large white tent owned by the City can be counted as three of the seven tents needed.  Panels provided by the County last year may need to be supplemented. Kim Walker, San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation PIO, distributed corrected budget. A request was made to Pyper, to enlist the assistance of the Parks and Recreation Commissioners to assist during the day of the event. Items #2: Reports and Updates Tolson Report  Wasp abatement needed in the interior bathroom wall of the Jack House. A pest control specialist was consulted. Tolson presented the recommendations made buy the consultant. The Jack House Committee Members discussed the recommendations.  Tischler will research options for wall removal that may needed for the wasp abatement and report on the impact it will have on the architecture.  A buyer is interested in purchasing the oriental rugs that are being stored in the buggy shed. On a motion by Schwartz, seconded by Johnson, the Committee voted 6:0 to assess the Oriental Jack House Committee June 12, 2002 Page 2 of 2 G:\Everyone\Jack House\JH Committee\Minutes\2002\6.12.02.doc Rugs that are currently being stored in the buggy shed and sell them for a total of $600.00.  Front sign has been repaired.  Brides’ Room carpet has been scheduled to be installed.  Tables and chairs will be moved to buggy shed.  Carriage is scheduled to be brought into the buggy shed for storage and display.  Roofing railing can be stored off site until it is ready to be used.  Stove is scheduled for repair. Schwartz Report  During the month of June, local schools have scheduled tours of the Jack House.  Pyper and Johnson were invited to the next docent training in July.  Jack House will be open for tours on July 4, 2002. Tischler Report  Sub-committee has met to establish a decoration and restoration policy for the Jack House. Sub-committee will meet again to finalize policy and present their ideas to the Jack House Committee.  Tischler has been researching options for the Jack House gift shop door. He will bring back to the Committee 2-3 choices for a final proposal. Conner Report  There is a need to replace some of the pickets and posts in the front.  Tischler will research the options of various natural materials and the cost. Ogden reminded the Committee that the month of July is Parks and Recreation month. Instead of having a regularly scheduled meeting there will be a City of San Luis Obispo Parks tour scheduled for July 10, 2002. Committee Members will receive an invitation and are encouraged to participate in the tour. On a motion by Pyper, seconded by Rodman, the Committee voted 6:0 to adjourn the meeting. Meeting was adjourned at 8:50pm to the July 10th Parks Tour.
