MINUTES
Parks and Recreation Administrative Office
Wednesday, March 13, 2003 5:30 PM
CALL TO ORDER: Chair Ron Batterson called the meeting to order at 5:32 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Chair, Ron Batterson, Committee Members, Gerry Johnson, Marion Rodman,
Martha Schwartz, and John Tischler
ABSENT: Vice Chair Wes Conner and Committee Member Bill Pyper
STAFF: Richard Ogden and Gail Valez
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD:
There was no public comment.
CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES AND FINANCIAL REPORT:
The minutes of February 12, 2003 meeting were approved as submitted.
The Financial Report of January 2003 was accepted as presented.
ITEM #1: Gift Shop Stove
Odgen reported that after researching this issue he determined that the Committee could decide what
to do with the stove. After discussion, it was decided that Tischler will speak with a contact in
Santa Barbara to inquire if he is interested in taking the stove.
ITEM #2: Reports and Updates
Monthly Activities
Ogden reported on the following:
- Piano: repair has been completed although it will require a second tuning, which is
scheduled for March 18, 2003. Schwartz was asked to confirm that the repairs were
completed.
- Art in the Garden: Information on panels will be presented at the April meeting.
Docent Activities
Schwartz reported on the following:
- She has heard that tapes exist with people throughout the county talking about the
Jack family. She believes the tapes could be in Mr. Davis' house or barn. Odgen will
pursue the matter further.
- Certified Folder Display will place the brochures in their display racks at various
locations from Morro Bay to Santa Maria for $100 a month. Schwartz made a
motion to have Jackie Kane, Publicity Chairperson of the Docents, and publicity sub-
committee contract with them for the months of June, July, and August. Rodman
seconded the motion. It passed unanimously.
- She presented draft copies of Accession and Deaccession Release documents for
review by the Committee. This item will be added to the agenda in April.
- She stated that the Docents Dinner on the calendar for October needs to be changed
to Wednesday, October 15. Batterson moved that the October Docent meeting be

changed to October 15 at 4:00 p.m. with the dinner following at 5:30 p.m. Rodman
seconded. It passed unanimously.
- She commented that the Carriage Barn is now ready for showing.
Member Comments
- Rodman referred to last month's comment on insurance. Ogden stated that the
contents of the House and liability for the Docents are both covered by the City.
- Schwartz reminded the Committee of the March 13th dinner for the Advisory
Committees. Schwartz stated that the Gift Shop roof leaks and that Dave Smith has
looked at the roof. Odgen will talk with Dave Smith on the status of the roof.
Meeting adjourned at 6:14 pm to the April 9, 2003 Jack House Meeting to be held at Parks and
Recreation Administration Office at 5:30 pm.
