MINUTES
Parks and Recreation Administrative Office
Wednesday, April 9, 2003 5:30 PM
CALL TO ORDER: Chair Ron Batterson called the meeting to order at 5:34 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Chair, Ron Batterson, Vice Chair Wes Conner, Committee Members Bill
Pyper, Gerry Johnson, Marion Rodman, Martha Schwartz, and John Tischler
ABSENT: All present
STAFF: Richard Ogden, Jill Lemieux, and Larry Tolson
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD:
There was no public comment.
CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES AND FINANCIAL REPORT:
The minutes of March 12, 2003 meeting were approved as submitted.
The Financial Report of March 2003 was presented. There were some questions regarding the total
gift shop revenue. Ogden will recheck the report and report at the next meeting.
ITEM #1: Election of Officers
After discussion, a motion was made that Ron Batterson and Wes Conner continue in their positions
for the next year. The motion passed unanimously.
ITEM #2: Art In The Garden
Ogden reported that the Arts Council has decided not to be involved this year. The Gallery
Association has shown an interest in taking over the duties of the Arts Council. A sub-committee
consisting of Schwartz and Johnson will work with Lemieux on this. After discussion it was
decided that Ogden will research options regarding panels and report to Committee next month.
Lemieux reviewed her event timeline.
ITEM #3: Accession/Deaccession Forms
Schwartz has created forms titled Accesstion and Deaccession which would be used when accepting
and disposing of property. A motion was made that the forms be adopted for the Jack House.
After discussion it was decided to table the item and motion until a future meeting when additional
information is gathered.
ITEM #4: Reports and Updates
Monthly Activities
Tolson reported on the following:
- The annual inspection of the exterior of the House is scheduled for next week.

- Staff has removed all table and chairs to the exterior of the barn. Carts are still
being modified with new wheels.
- Staff is working on prepping garden for the season.
- He has given Tischler plans for the site. Tischler and Conner will review the plans
and develop a planting plan.
- Vidler plans to have the Fire Sprinkler diagrams available in May.
Lemieux reported on the following
- She distributed a Flyer and press release for mother’s day. Schwartz asked that the
video be made available in the buggy shed to accommodate the disabled. After
discussion it was decided to put the video in the Brides Room.
Docent Activities
Schwartz reported on the following
- The piano does not work. Ogden will contact the repair person.
- Curtain rods have been found. The curtains will need to be installed up in the Brides
Room.
- Gift Shop roof is in need of repair. Tolson will be sure it is tarped before the rain
this weekend.
- There are stains on carpet stairs at the landing.
- On mother’s day the campfire boys will raise the flag and play the bugle during the
raising. They will also pass flowers out to the mothers and offer their arm to escort
them into the House.
Member Comments
- Tischler informed the Committee that the people in Santa Barbara are not interested
in the stove. It was decided to put a for sale sign on it.
- Tischler reported that in regards to the flagstone wall/bench constructions he feels
that additional foundation will need to be added for report. He and Conner will
review it on Friday.
- Pyper asked if a Committee Member to volunteer to research missing dates on the
family tree for the brochure. Schwartz volunteered to work on it.
- Conner expressed concern regarding not having continuous garden staff. The person
who is filling in is doing a good job but he is not permanently assigned to the
property.
- Conner will follow up with Joe regarding doing a plant inventory.
- Rodman asked about installing a mirror in Brides Room and stool at vanity table.
Schwartz reported that a mirror is available.
- Schwartz asked about cistern and status. Batterson will add to works program so it is
not overlooked.
Meeting adjourned at 6:49 pm to the May 14, 2003 Jack House Meeting to be held at, Parks and
Recreation Administration Office at 5:30 pm.
