Jack House Committee
MINUTES
Parks and Recreation Administrative Office
Wednesday, January 14, 2004 5:30 PM
CALL TO ORDER: Vice Chair Wes Conner called the meeting to order at 5:35 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Vice Chair Wes Conner, Committee Members Gerry Johnson, Bill Pyper, Marion
Rodman, Martha Schwartz, and John Tischler
ABSENT: Chair Ron Batterson
STAFF: Rich Ogden and Larry Tolson
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD:
There was no public comment.
CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES AND FINANCIAL REPORT:
The minutes of October 15, 2003 meeting were approved as amended.
Docent Activities ~ Elderberry jam was sold, not jelly.
Item 3 ~ Name correction, Pete Watson, not Pete Johnson.
Monthly Activities ~ correct the word from as to ad “Ad will run as follows”.
Monthly Activities ~ Tolson reported the front porch will be rebuilt and covered with metal
sheeting.
CONSIDERATION OF SPECIAL MINUTES:
The minutes from Larry Tolson of November 14, 2003 special meeting were approved.
The Financial Report for December 2003 was presented and accepted.
ITEM #1: Banning House / Stowe House
15-17 docents will be attending tour and invitations were extended to Historical Society Members.
Jack House Committee agreed to contribute $1,200 for tour and asked each attendee to donate $10.
The total cost for the tour is $1,375.
ITEM #2: Electricity for Front of House
Nothing to report at this time.
Reports and Updates
Monthly Activities
Tolson reported on the following:
Turf renovation has started.
Ogden reported on the following:
Draft of the 2004 calendar was presented and discussed.
Advisory Body Appreciation dinner will be held on March 11, 2004. A list of
accomplishments from each committee will be need to be turned into Rich by
January 23, 2004.

Docent Activities
Schwartz reported on the following:
181 adults & 36 children toured the Jack House in December.
Park staff took down the holiday lights from the outside of the house and new lights
are available for next year.
All holiday decorations were taken down.
Docents are currently looking for the ironing board.
Docent fell into a window, breaking it. Window was replaced, but alarm sensor has
not been attached yet.
House alarm is not able to be set.
One of the side panels on the fireplace in Gertrude’s room was damaged during the
earthquake and needs to be repaired.
Two docents will be resigning soon.
A motion was made to change the hours of operation for the December Holiday tours of the Jack House
to begin on the second weekend in December.
Motion was passed unanimously.
Member Comments
Pyper has completed the family tree and will distribute.
Pyper reported there will be two vacancies on the Parks and Recreation Commission
soon.
Rodman requested new name tags for all committee members.
Conner reported there was no visible damage to the Jack House and Gardens from
the December 22, 2003 earthquake.
Conner reported gardening staff are keeping things looking nice and new ground
cover was placed under trees.
Communications
There were no communications.
Meeting adjourned at 6:20 pm to the February 11, 2004 meeting at Parks and Recreation Administration
Office at 5:30 pm.
