Jack House Committee
MINUTES
Parks and Recreation Administrative Office
Wednesday, April 14, 2004 5:30 PM
CALL TO ORDER: Chair Ron Batterson called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Vice Chair Wes Conner, Committee Members Gerry Johnson, Bill Pyper, Marion
Rodman, Martha Schwartz, and John Tischler
STAFF: Larry Tolson, Rich Ogden, and Kim Walker
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD:
There was no public comment.
CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES AND FINANCIAL REPORT:
The minutes of March 10, 2004 meeting were approved.
The Financial Report for March 2004 was presented and accepted.
ITEM #1: Elections
A motion was made to re-elect Ron Batterson as Committee Chair and Wes Conner to serve another term as
Vice Chair. The motion was unanimously accepted.
ITEM #2: Flag Replacement
The flag will be replaced with a new one on Thursday, April 15, 2004.
ITEM #3: Magnolia Removal
Connor reported that a requests for the City Arborist to check the health and future status of the
Magnolia tree. It looks as if it is diseased and may need to be removed. Connor will continue to report
to Committee on the status of the tree.
ITEM #4: Art in the Garden
Walker reported that more artists want to apply to participate with Art in the Garden then ever before.
Walker will place a ½ page ad in The Tribune publication, Arts, about Art in the Garden and a call to
artists.
Reports and Updates
Monthly Activities
Ogden reported on the following:
Mother’s Day plans are going well and will be similar to previous years.
Jack House & Garden event calendars were given to all Committee Members.
Name tags for Committee Members were ordered and will be available for Mothers
Day.
Jack House Garden Summer rental schedule was given to each Committee Member.
Tolson reported on the following:
Two electrical boxes were installed.
Patio lamp post was removed, but footing will remain in the ground.
The roof project is awaiting approval from the City Engineer.

Pete Watson will be working on the Maple tree fence. The Committee approved
budget of $4,800.
April 23, 2004 a party at the Jack House Gardens to honor Lee Price, City Clerk
and her departure from the City of San Luis Obispo.
Walker reported on the following:
Flyers promoting Mothers Day and the Triathlon will distributed in SLO Flyers
through the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce.
$450 was paid to the Visitor Conferences Bureau for the Jack House & Garden to
be listed on their web site (as a Gold level member).
Docent Activities
Rover did not arrive with key to open the houses and Schwartz has requested a key be
provided to volunteers.
Schwartz will be absent for May meeting.
Joan Sullivan will show the hour long Jack House video on Channel 2 three days in May.
Schwartz would like to publicize for more docents.
Member Comments
Conner announced a training session on May 16, 2004 for all City of San Luis
Obispo Commissioners.
Tischler has recruited two volunteers from RRM for the April 24th work day in the
Garden.
Tischler requested two yards of City Corps chipper mulch for the April 24th work
day.
Communications
Johnson will look into getting the City trolley to make a stop at the Jack House on a regular basis.
Meeting adjourned at 6:40 pm to the May 12, 2004 meeting at Parks and Recreation Administration Office at
5:30 pm.
