MINUTES
Parks and Recreation Administrative Office
Wednesday, September 8, 2004 5:30 PM
CALL TO ORDER: Chair Ron Batterson called the meeting to order at 5:35 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Chair Ron Batterson, Wesley Conner, Richard Dresp, and Marion Rodman.
ABSENT: Gerry Johnson, John Tischler, and Bill Pyper.
STAFF: Larry Tolson, Rich Ogden, and Kim Walker.
GUESTS: Betty Stockton, Richard Dresp, and Megan Reerslev.
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD:
There was no public comment.
CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES AND FINANCIAL REPORT:
The minutes of August 18, 2004 meeting were approved as submitted.
The Financial Report for July and August were approved with the additions and corrections.
ITEM #1: Brochure – Rich Ogden
Rich Ogden presented the current brochures. Richard Dresp discussed the quantity of current
brochures in the House are 7,000.
Bill Pyper discussed the possibility of new brochures that incorporate both the Jack Hou se and
Garden brochure into one.
Committee recommended Kim Walker to contact three designers and invite them to bid on the
restructure of the Jack House and Garden brochures into one comprehensive document.
(Pyper/Johnson, motion passed unanimously).
ITEM #2: Art in the Garden Wrap Up – Kim Walker
Kim Walker reported the total art sales were $10, 307.04.
Walker presented a “Wrap Up” memo with information detailing revenue and expenditures of the
event.
Sales and attendance were slightly down from 2003. The following are recommendations to for
Art in the Garden 2005:
-Attend Chamber of Commerce Breakfast.
-Include flyer in SLO Flyers.
-Notify Committee of any special tickets/discounts given out.
-Keep trashcan near front entrance.
-Order less lunches.
Recommended to schedule Art in the Garden 2005 for August 21. (Pyper/Tischler, motion passed
unanimously).
ITEM #3: Banner
Recommended to contact Dave Norton regarding design and production of three different, event
specific banners for Christmas Open House, Mother’s Day and Art in the Garden. Christmas

Open House and Mother’s Day will come out of this fiscal year, and Art in the Garden will
come out of next fiscal year. (Batterson/Rodman, motion passed).
ITEM #4: 2005-07 Financial Plan
Ogden requests the Committee review the current Financial Plan and come to the next
meeting with goals and objectives to discuss.
Reports and Updates
Staff Reports:
Ogden reported that the vacant position on the Committee will be filled in March 2005.
Monthly Activities:
Docent Chair, Dresp, spoke on a number of issues:
- Dresp suggested to the Committee to honor Martha Schwartz for September 11 celebration
with a flower bouquet. Staff will order the flowers.
- Docents are making 85 dozen cookies for Martha Schwartz’s celebration.
- There was a scheduling conflict on Sunday, September 5. There was a wedding and the
guests set up equipment on the porch.
Member Comments:
- Member Johnson made a note on July Minutes.
- Committee The Trolley cannot stop at the Jack House as the Trolley cannot let visitors out
in traffic; however, since it does stop at Foster Freeze, the Trolley driver is asked to
remind visitors of the Jack House.
Communications
There were no communications at this time.
Meeting adjourned at 7:15 pm to the October 13, 2004 meeting at Parks and Recreation Administration
Office at 5:30 pm.
