HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-13-10 JHC MinutesJack House Committee MINUTES San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Administration Wednesday, January 13, 2010 5:30 PM CALL TO ORDER: Chair Ron Batterson called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM. ROLL CALL: Committee Members Patrick Mayeda, Gerry Johnson, and Betty Stockton. ABSENT: Kathi Settle, Bob Gordon and Kylie Hatch STAFF: Christine Wallace GUESTS: Pamela Hurd PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: There were no public comments. CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES AND FINANCIAL REPORT: The minutes of November 2009 were approved. The November 2009 Financial Report was approved. REGULAR ITEMS ITEM #1: Pheromone Kit Purchase • A suggestion was made to purchase a Pheromone kit to help protect garments from moths/insects. • The cost for the kit is approximately $150. • If the kit is purchased, Toni Kincaid will discuss with the docent group how to utilize the kit for garment protection and preservation. Batterson made a motion to approve the funds, up to $150, for the purchase of a Pheromone kit. The motion was passed unanimously. ITEM #2: Lighthouse Visit Expenditure • The docents would like to visit the lighthouse and have requested the funds to purchase tickets. The tickets cost $20 per person or $220 for 14 people. • The docents would like to go sometime during Spring 2010. • Batterson would like to support the docents with an approval for the funds. • Johnson would like to go if there is space available and it is appropriate to participate in the tour. Batterson made a motion to approve the $220 for the purchase of tickets so that 14 people may attend a tour of the lighthouse. The motion was passed unanimously. ITEM #3: Furniture Staging • The furniture has been moved from the original staging arrangement and the docents would like to have permission to move the furniture again soon. • Hurd relayed feedback from Suzanne Watkins, a former Jack House interior designer, that the furniture placement is different than her original staging. She may be interested in getting involved with the Jack House again. Jack House Committee Minutes for January 13, 2010 Page 2 of 3 • Batterson would like to get Suzanne Watkins involved with the Jack House again. He thought it would be alright to move the furniture around as needed, but does not want to move light fixtures without getting the city maintenance staff involved. • Batterson would like to hear the opinions of the docents and what they would like to do with the furniture. • Mayeda supports what docents want, reminding them if there is a need to request funds for anything, it would have to come back before the Jack House committee. ITEM #4: Artificial Flower Purchase– Wallace • During the packing for the construction projects in quarter three of 2009, the old and dusty artificial flowers were discarded. • There is a request for funds to replace the decorative, silk flowers in the Jack House. • Wallace stated the replacement cost may be up to $500. She suggested asking Bob Gordon for help to select and procure the flowers and arrangements. Johnson made a motion to approve up to $500 for the purchase of artificial, silk flowers for display purposes in the Jack House. The motion was passed unanimously. ITEM #5: New Times Wedding Guide Ad–Wallace • There is a new Bridal Guide from the New Times that is designed to be a pull out section. The information about circulation and readership was not available at this time. • The price to share a quarter page advertisement with the Parks & Recreation Facilities Department is $250 for the space dedicated to The Jack House. • Mayeda asked if the Jack House reservations were filled 100% for 2009. Wallace said it was not. • It funds will be taken from the Jack House promotional account. Batterson made a motion to approve $250 for the New Times wedding promotional ad. The motion was passed unanimously. Reports and Updates Monthly Activities – Staff/Public Works Christine Wallace reported on the following items: • Christmas open house at the Jack House was successful with staff helping serve cookies and snacks. • The sprinklers system is still being worked on because it is not yet hooked up to the alarm system. • Some holiday lights are still out at the Jack House and Wallace will ask staff to take them down and store for next Christmas. Docent Activities Pamela Hurd reported on the following items: • Docents have dedicated over 160 hours with all the holiday decorations and tour activities. • During the Holiday Open House days, there were 66 visitors on Friday, 50 visitors on Saturday and 70 visitors on Sunday. • The Festival Mosaic may be interested in partnering with the Jack House for an event in 2010. Member Comments • Stockton - Stanchions were left in the Nanny’s room and need to be moved to the master bedroom closet for storage. • Stockton thanked Batterson for providing the piano light. Jack House Committee Minutes for January 13, 2010 Page 2 of 3 • Stockton – Sprinkler system is very noticeable in the boy’s room closet. It takes away from the look of the closet. Every closed room is required to have a sprinkler and that closet is included in the space requirement. • Stockton thanked everyone that helped make the Christmas season so nice at the Jack House. • Batterson – the Jack House will be opened to the public again in April 2010. Communications • No communications at this time. Meeting adjourned at 6:10 p.m. Next meeting is February 10, 2010 at 5:30 pm at the San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Administration Office.
