ROLL CALL: Committee Members: Ron Batterson, Patrick Mayeda, Gerry Johnson, Kathi Settle, Betty Stockton and Kylie Hatch ABSENT: Bob Gordon STAFF: Christine Wallace GUESTS: Toni Kincaid PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD There were no public comments. CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES MOTION: (Batterson/Mayeda) Approve the April 13, 2011 minutes as submitted. Approved: 6 yes: 0 no: 1 absent (Bob Gordon) CONSIDERATION OF FINANCIAL REPORT MOTION: (Batterson/Mayeda) Approve the April 13, 2011 Financial Report as submitted. Approved: 6 yes: 0 no: 1 absent (Bob Gordon) REGULAR ITEMS 1. Staff Reports and Updates: Parks and Recreation/Public Works Wallace reported on the following: Plans for the new gazebo have been amended to add more detail to be submitted to the City. Mr. Brajkovich has submitted the plans to the City for review and is working on a materials estimate for the project. The gazebo subcommittee will meet again to begin planning the project funding. Wallace met with Barbara Lynch of Public Works and Greg Zocher, Risk Manager at the current gazebo structure in the garden to discuss use for this season. It was agreed that no ladders should be placed leaning against the structure. Wording in the user agreement would be changed to note this specifically. There are no other issues with the use of the structure. Park Tour is scheduled for June 22. Mother’s Day Concert was successful with 150 people in the garden enjoying the music, cake and cars in addition to the house tours. A silver listing would cost $425 for an improved listing over this past year plus an online listing where brides go to research ceremony and reception locations. For $725 we can also continue to place a ¼ page ad. The package of advertisements will total $1200. After discussion about how to further advertise the house as a rental facility it was decided that a postcard can be created by the Communications and Marketing Specialist to place in the house. The house will be closed for the Flavor of SLO event. Termites were discovered in the Wash House and it has been tented. The tenting should come down by Friday of this week. 2. Docent Activities Kincaid reported on the following: The Monday Club tour brought in $117. Mother’s Day made $116 with lots of kids in attendance. Mayor Marx also visited during the Mother’s Day Concert and spoke with Kincaid about the gazebo project. Over 45 hats were on display for the Mother’s Day event. Linda Brownson donated about 25 and Rose Shipley contributed about 20 to the display as well. Victorian Tea, scheduled on August 14, is being planned as is Haunted House. Craig Kincaid met a stamp collector who has an old letter from Mr. Jack that was postmarked in Cholame. Kincaid will try to contact the stamp collector for further information about the letter. Kincaid spoke at the Senior Center and had a great experience discussing old stories from some of the attendees that knew the Jacks. Kincaid plans to meet with some of the seniors to collect oral histories. The Hollister family is holding a reunion and would like to schedule a tour of the Jack House for the family. 3. Member Comments/Communications Johnson – Monday Club tour of the Jack House went very well and a printed brochure was passed around. Johnson will attempt to get a brochure for the Jack House files. Mayeda – Are sock monkeys Victorian? It may be a nice addition to the gift shop? Kincaid – Masonic Lodge talk about Mr. Jack was wonderful Meeting adjourned at 6:04 p.m. Next meeting is June 8, 2011 at 5:30 pm at the San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Administration Office.
