Dear City Council Members, I just wanted to ask for you to keep Cal Poly from building apartment complexes disguised as single family dwellings in my neighborhood. Actual single families need to be given the opportunity to live here in existing modestly -sized homes. Mid - Century homes like these are rare. This is good housing stock that adults value. Students do not value such things. As crazy as it may seem, my wife and I just bought a house in Monterey Heights last month. We've been renting it for the past four years, so we know what we are getting into by living here. That said, the events of the past few months are profoundly troubling, even for a cynic like me with very little hope that things in the world will get better rather than worse. But at this point I'm thinking I should probably just stop caring about what happens to this city. We should stop kidding ourselves. It is a fake, shell of a town with only a tiny handful of working adults making a meaningful contribution to its culture. It is a place to spend your college years drinking beer and then to return at retirement to drink wine. Pathetic. Eventually, all of SLO's neighborhoods (not just those near Cal Poly) will be primarily student neighborhoods. Intelligent adults don't want to live an environment that is becoming more hostile and uncivil every day. The adults will flee, no matter how much they love the weather. Things will get worse and worse, and there will never be any decent restaurants here. Cal Poly will be laughing all the way to the bank, and will wield even more power over city government than they do now. Please prove me wrong. Vote against the acceleration of the ruination of SLO neighborhoods. Thank you, Doug Irion I MAY L 7 2015 COUNCIL MEETING: ITEM NO.:,_
