Subject: Styrofoam Ban Alternatives
To whom it may concern-
My name is Matt Pearce. I own Old San Luis BBQ Co. in Downtown SLO. I'm contacting you today about the
city's proposed foam food container ban. I don't really use foam, but other nearby restaurants do and will be negatively affected. And I, along
with these other restaurants, am not happy about the government's involvement with what we can and cannot use to package food.
I believe that there are better alternatives to foam containers, but a program for foam recycling instead of simply banning it would not only
mitigate the problem of food container waste but also packaging materials from other retail as well.
At the very least I believe that this decision to ban foam containers should be made by the people of SLO in a popular vote rather than being
imposed by a governing body. After all, this ban has the potential of affecting the price of meals at many restaurants enjoyed by all our
community members.
Thank you for your time.
Best,
Matt Pearce
