Club members are also committed to many other forms of outdoor activity, the preservation of open space and the building of a transportation infrastructure that encourages residents to use active forms of transportation, such as bicycling and walking. The City and residents have established three major goals in the 2015 - 2017 municipal budget, two of which are open space preservation and a commitment to multi -modal forms of transportation. You have an opportunity to make significant financial decisions that will reinforce your commitment to these two goals. In the last few years, you have generously increased funding to complete a variety of innovative bicycle infrastructure projects such as green lanes and a buffered bike lane. Now you have the opportunity to commit additional funding to the many projects still pending in the City's recently revised Bicycle Transportation Plan. You also have an opportunity to become a partner in the renovation of our historic Octagon Barn. Upon completion, the Octagon Barn Center will serve as a park -like open space with a large "commons" and natural amphitheater for gathering, a % -mile walking path, a wetland, and two historic buildings. The improvements to the barn will also provide parking, restroom facilities, regional trail information and outdoor recreation amenities for City residents and visitors to enjoy. This new infrastructure will improve bicycling safety and will complement the City's commitment to the Bob Jones Trail extensions. Again, your community has spoken and major goals have been established. I urge you to allocate the necessary funding to complete the high - priority projects in the Bicycle Transportation Plan and allocate substantial funding towards the completion of the Octagon Barn Center. Sincerely, David Abrecht Bicycle Advocate San Luis Obispo Bicycle Club
