Subject: 2015 -17 CIP - Resurfacing Sport Courts
Dear City Council Members,
COUNCIL MEETING: I -
ITEM NO.:
I would like to state my support for resurfacing and general maintenance to be completed for the hockey rink located at the Santa Rosa
Park. Through participating in the YMCA hockey leagues my family has enjoyed playing at the rink pretty much year around now for 4+
years. I'm part of the Roller Hockey Task Force, a YMCA hockey coach, and a player.
Currently, the rink's coated surface is chipping, effecting the quality of play and the safety of the players. The coating provides a
smooth surface for the puck to glide on all while providing grip to allow the players to play under control. Another major safety concern
are some of the screws that hold the hockey boards on are coming out. Therefore, you have a screw head sticking out from the boards
that can injure a player and some of boards' cap pieces have completely fallen off exposing a rough edge. Lastly, the gate latches for
the players' benches are breaking down. A simple weld should be enough to fix and strengthen the latches.
I take pride in the rink on a weekly basis by sweeping the rink before practices /games, picking up trash left on the benches, screwing in
loose screws along the hockey boards, and lately chasing off skateboards. I feel it would be in the City's best interest to resurface and
complete some general maintenance on the rink to ensure the City's investment in the rink and the family entertainment value it adds to
our community.
Sincerely,
Cory Miller
