This one, I'm not sure reached you — so here it is. I hope we can have a good answer for the people (including our Planning Commission) about potentially adding another Open space Ranger, at least perhaps in Year 2. Thanks, John Ashbaugh Vice Mayor GVT y A rp G r s Office of the City Council 990 Palm Street, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 -3249 E ashbau h slacit .or T 805.781.7122 C 805.550.7713 slocity.org From: Janice Elliott [mailto:janicehollyaamail.com] Sent: Monday, June 08, 2015 9:32 AM To: Marx, Jan; Ashbaugh, John; Carpenter, Dan; Christianson, Carlyn; Rivoire, Dan Subject: City's Open Space Ordinance Dear City Council members, If the Council's highest priority is to "Protect and Maintain Open Space" and that "resources to accomplish them should be included in the 2015 -2017 Financial Plan" (Council Minutes, January 24, 2015 ) then I believe it is your duty to spend adequate money to a enforce the rules related to Bishop Peak Open Space. Hiring only one more ranger whose main duty is to maintain the trails (as referenced at the Parks and Recreation meeting last week) does not adequately protect the Open Space. I have never seen a ranger in the area even though I hike Felsman Loop 3 times a week for the last 4 years. There are always dogs off leash which prevented me bringing my leashed dog on hikes as he was uncomfortable being approached by dogs off leash. Having a ranger there handing out tickets would quickly discourage people from breaking the laws. Likewise, giving tickets to people who are breaking the law by night hiking, which is a danger to the homes, people and the environment, could stop this behavior. I do not understand why enforcement of the existing laws are overlooked and not prioritized. Thank you, Janice Elliott
