August 5, 1940
To the Honorable +layor and Commissioners of the City of
San 7 uis Obispo.
Some time ago I appeared before you and complained in
regard to the noise of a motor installed by one .Mr. Bay close _.-_
to my- rooming house you,I feel that as a body of intelligent
men, must know -how such noise effects my business. People come
here to sleep and rest, not to be disturbed by some. noises
stopping and starting up at all -hours of the night. Itis not
only the monitory value I am robbed of, but my sleep and rest.
I have been very patient with Mr. Bay. Been to see him
on different occassions, but he seems to ignore me.
I have lived here, to be exact, 52 years last rebruary.
Have paid taxes during that time for 25 years; have paid a
license to run a rooming house. If I can not get people to
patronize me through the creation of noises of my neighbor,
I donit see the use of my paying a license.
I- believe this board, by his erecting something against
the Fire Ordinance, can compel him to remove it so- as to comply
__ac.cording_..tp.--ordinances
I was talking to Mrs. Lanscioni, the party that owns and
who leases the building to Mr. Bay; she said if she had known
he, Mr. Bay, was putting up the shed she would have stopped
him as she did not want it there as a fire menace or anything
that would injure my business or disturb my rest.
Respectfully yours,
I Id

Gentlemen.;.._
At a meeting of the Retail lulerchants
Association of the Chamber of Commerce held in
the Chamber office , 1022 Morro Street, at 5 P.M.
Tuesday, August 6th, the representative went on
record favoring the proposal that a stop sign be
placed. on Chorro Street to check traffic moving
on to Higuera.
The committee further went on record as
opposing the placement of a "no left turn" sign
in the Chorro and Higuera Streets intersection
on the grounds that it would hamper traffic in
the business area and would cause visitors to
pass up the Mission.
The Retail II"erchants committee is selected
by ballot among all business firms and its views
can be regarded as representative among these firms.
Yours sincerely,

Gentlemen:
There has been 'some misunderstanding
concerning the publicity given to the the Retail
Merchants request to erect stop signs at the
corner of Chorro and .Higu era Streets . The Retail
lverchants endorsed the erection of stop and go
signals rather than the regular common boulevard
stop sign.
This error was brought to the attention of
the Secretary by the member making the motion.
