Min-
The claims of Maino & Lane , R.A. Carson Co., and W.J.Tobin in the amounts
of 32096.64 , $ 422.55 and $ 1;050.07 respectively,were ordered paid on motion of
V.B. Martin seconded by James Piper.
On motiop of James Piper seconded by P.B. Martin the work of R.A.Carson Co
Contractors for the construction of concrete culverts under specifications No. 11 , was
accepted in accordance with report of the City Engineer'under date of October 16th 1922.
A proposal of the Seagrave Company of Los Angeles for a model 660 Triple
Combination Pumper,Hose and Chemical Engine for the sum of ( $ 11,750.00 ) was received
and placed on file on motion of H.A. Gowman seconded by W.B. Martin.
The application of W.W. Johnson and M. Stephenson for license to sell soft
drinks ( Cider ) was again laid over.
On motion of H.A. Gowman seconded by James Piper license for Lunch Oounter
was granted to A. Christensen at 1504 Osos Street.
The petition of Mary J. Gnesa for transfer-of license for Hotel and Soft :.
Drinks at 995 Higuera Street to M.P. Tognazzini was again laid over.
On motion of H.A.Gowman seconded by James Piper the petition of Waldo Chie
for transfer of his interest in license for Restaurant at 557 Monterey Street to Paul Sada
was granted .

Application of American Legion for license for "Legion Fair" was again
Chief of Police was directed to look into the matter of the erection of a
Garage by F. Lusardi on Leff Street near Santa Rosa Street.
On motion of W.B. Martin seconded by H.A. Gowman the meeting adjourned to
Monday, October 23d at 7:30.P -.M.

On motion of Geo. W. Kilbern seconded by James Piper the following applications
for sidewalk and curbing and retaining wall were granted
R.M. Bernard - 100 ft. full width sidewalk and curbing-on the South side Monterey Street-7...-..
between Toro and Essex Street.
Elizabeth Nelson - 190 ft. 5 ft park sidewalk and retaining wall on the west side Santa Roe&
Street and on the South side Palm Street , Block 24,
The Santa Maria Gas Company were permitted to open trenches at the following
named locations on motion of Geo. W. Kilbern seconded by W.B. Martin:
On Toro Street between Peach and Mill Stre --t.
" Monterey Street between Toro and Essex Street.
" Broad Street between Woodbridge and Christian Ave.
The report of the City Treasurer for the month of September was received and .
ordered filed on motion of James Piper seconded by Geo. W. Kilbern.
"The petition of C.H. Kamm Co, for permit to place an electric sign at 1059
Monterey Street was granted on motion of W.B. Martin seconded by Geo. W. Kilbern with the
provision that the said installation meet with the approval of the Commissioner of Public
Health and Safety.
The Merchandising Bond of the ..Coast Produce Company ( Chas. Gotfried)
with R. Bassi as Surety , was approved and accepted on motion of Geo. W. Kilbern seconded
W.13, Martin.
A.: petition requestig the Council to take steps to abate a nuisance existing
at Osos and Sycamore Streets -gas received and laid over to the next meeting.
On motion of W.B. Martin seconded by Geo. W. Kilbern communication of
Dr. H.A. Gallup relative to testing of -Fire Engine was received and ordered filed. City
Clerk directed to write regrets..
A proposal on Fire Apparatus was filed by the American La France Fire
Engine Company On motion of W.B. Martin seconded by Geo. W. Kilbern it was ordered
that the said proposal be received and placed on file, to occupy the same status as the 2d
proposal filed by the Seagrave Co of Los Angeles.
The petition of merchants requesting the Council to draft an Ordinance
prohibiting the selling of wares, merchandise and soft drinks on the main streets of the
City was received and orderea filed on motion of James Piper seconded by W.B. Martin.
On motion of W.B. Martin seconded by Geo. W. Kilbern the application of
Mr. & Mrs. Goodman for license for lodging house at Cor. Morro and Higuera Streets
was granted.
M.r'. Turnage was granted license for Lodging House in the Kaiser Building,
cor. Higuera and Santa Rosa Streets,on motion of James Piper seconded by W.B. Martin.
On motion of Geo. W. Kilbern seconded by James Piper , Chris Archuleta was
granted license for Soft Drinks and Cigars Sideline at 102) Chorro Street.
The petition of Mary J. Gnesa for transfer of licenses for Hotel and

seconded by James Piper.
The communication of Jane R. Forbes protesting against drainage from the
Southern Pacific Right of way was again btought up and referred to the City Engineer for 1
recommendations.
Relative to the application of W.W. Johnson and M. .Stevenson for license
f o selling cider on streets It was moted by James Piper and seconded by W.B. Martin
that the license be granted with the following exceptions: that soft drinks shall not be
sold, commencing on the following Streets - _Eiguera Street from Broad Street to Santa Rosa
Street; Monterey Street from Chorro S•tre• °t to Santa Rosa Street,and all intersecting streets
;thereof within one block in either direction.
