HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/27/1923145 In .re opening of Cypress Street across South Street : Yr Clif =ord reported that the owner of the lot which would be required for this purpose asked $ 500.00 for same. It was the sense of the Council that the property owners in the vicinity who would be most benefitted by the opening of the said Street should bear the expense of same, The matter was laid over for further investigation by the Commissioner of Public Works, Ordinance No. 95 ( New Series ) , An Ordinance amending Section 11 of Licens Ordinance No. 76 ( New Series ) was finally passed on motion of 0.I -1.0arpenter seconded by 6J.B,I41artin by the following vote: 1 Ayes : WeB.Iuartin, C.M.Carpenter, Geo, yV. kilbern, Chas, Forbes, L.F.Sinsheimer, IToes : ivone, Absent : None, In re opening of Story Street Commissioner Chas. Forbes reported that I; ?r. Caudill would give 30 fto of his property but that Mro Neilsen asked 200,00 for 1 a strip of 30 ft. off the rear of his property. The Council was of the opinion that the opening of the said Street was not of sufficient importance for an expenditure of City Funds and the matter was left over, On motion of 11,B,I1artin seconded by Chas. Forbes. On motion of C.I3.Carpenter seconded by W.B.Martin the application of R.I.Dennis for license for Soft Drinks at 879 Itilonterey Street was granted. The application of John Yark for license for Palmistry was referred to the Commissioner of Public Ee'alth and Safety for investigation and report on motion of W,B. seconded Uy i eo. 'v;. iiilberti., Reports of the City.Clerk and City Treasurer for the months of July were 1. received and ordered filed on motion_ of Iff,B.I:Iartin seconded by Geo, 1116 I<ilbern. J.G.Driscoll appeared before the Council, in behalf of the County Fair Committee, and requested permission to use the City Streets on Saturday September 1st at 10 o'clock A.1,1 *, for parade purnoses. The request was granted on motion of ,B,Manti seconded by C.M.Carpenter. The application of Eirs. Ida Farmer for permit to coimi.ect with the City S on Monterey Street between Ida and Grove Street was again brought up and referred to the Commissioner of Public 14orks with power to act. C.A.I;?aino appeared before the Council and mede' verbal request for permissic to erect a frame and corrugated iron building in Block`14 fronting on Palm Street9 the said location being within the fire proof building limits. The matter was discussed and hTr. Maind was directed to bring the matter before the Council'_iti...a_formal and- .-.regular. way . On behalf of the Directors of the San Luis Obispo Exposition Park, C.IS.Carpenter requested permission to close , on Labor Day at the hour of the races, Streets leading to the Park. On motion duly seconded the request was granted. The 27th. Annual Report of the Trustees of the Free Public Library for the Fiscal Year ending June 30th 1923 was presented ; read and ord -red filed on motion of 1'l.B.I:iartin seconded by Chas. Forbes. On motion of C,H.Carpenter seconded by Geo. W. Zilbern applications for licenses were granted as follows : lrs. E.G.Smith Restaurant Golden State Hotel Building A.S.1,1c Intyre Restaurant and Cigars sideline 1819 Osos Street Cigars Sideline - 1447 Baech Street John Connally Cigars Sideline 1040 Cho-rro Street The matter.of the Tag Rate for the 1923- 1924 Tax Levy was now taken up for consideration by the Council. The first matter taken up was the.rate for the Public Library and A.E,Campbell and Itrs, E.L,Zellogn- , Trustee and Librarian respectively,. appeared in the interest of the said institution. Iuatter discussed. It was moved by W.B,ldactin and seconded by C,M.Carpenter..that .12 be levied for Library.purposes, with the provision that the Library remain open to the public 12 hours instead of 8 hours as at present. The motion carried by the following vote : Ayes : W.B.I. -- actin', C,M.Carpenter, Geo, We Kilbern; Chas. Forbes; L.F.Sinsheimer., Noes : None. Absent : None. For General Fund. :.
