HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/20/19400 City Hall, Monday, May 20th, 1940 - 7:30 P. M. City Council met in regular session - Mayor F. C. Kimball presiding. Present: W. H. Brazil, R. P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Absent; None S.. The minutes of May 6th and 13th were read and approved as read. The following applications for permit to build were granted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil: Bernard & Mary Mattison - Residence and Garage, Lot 6, Blk 1519 Harford Addn. Cost $ 39000.00 ' Frances & Mary Goessi - Addition of room, Phillips & Beebee Addn. ^ 300.00 A. A. Bay - Add to warehouse, Part Lots 5 & 6, Blk 86; Mission Vineyard Tract ( Lanscioni property ) " 100.00 This being the date fixed by the Council fin accordance with published notice for receiving bids for Coarse and Fine Aggregate to be used in the construction of Reservoi No. 3, bids to be received up to 7:30 o'clock P. M. May 20th, 1940, the following is a list of all bids received which were publicly opened and read: Henry C. Dalessi:- 1400 Cu. After di-�cussion it was moved by R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil that the abode bids be taken under advisement; that the city engineer be instructed to send samples of material from the Dalessi quarry for tests for compliance with State specifi- cations. On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy the following appli- cations for permit to hang signs were referred to the commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report to'the Council: Purity Stores, Ltd: - To erect a "Stick out" sign at Marsh and Broad Streets Glasser Bros : To hang a metal sign with wood frame at 735 Marsh Street The application of W. H. Goettsche, by Archie A. Cheda, for permit to break pavement on Islay Street between Garden and Broad Streets, in order to make sewer con- nection for new residence, was referred to the commissioner of Public Works, with power , to act, on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by R. P. Howell. ' The report of the City Treasurer for the month ending April 30th, 1940 re- ceived and ordered placed on file. The petition of *illis H. Chase et al for the improvement of Santa Rose Street from Buchon Street to S. P. R. R. right -of -way by oil road mix surfacing was received and ordered placed on file for future reference, upon motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. A. V. Cline and Edna Lee Cline presented a deed covering that portion of Caudill Street between Lawton Street and Story Street; matter was discussed and on•motion duly seconded and carried, was referred to the department of Public VIorks for investigation and report to the Council. 1 1 1 1 1 41 Commissioner of Public Works, R., P. Howell, reported on the following matters I referred-to him with power to act, stating that he had authorized the work to be done:- Application of Ann E. and M. J. Smith - Roof over porch, pt of Lot 69 Blk 80 Application of Willis H.'Chase - To remove 4 trees on Santa Rosa St. near Islay Street. Application of Andrew Renetzky - To connect with the city sewer on:Kentucky Street On motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell the application of R. K. Kaime, Secretary of the Chamber -of Commerce, for permit to erect two "Directional Signs" at Marshand Morro Streets was granted. Joseph Leary'voted "No ". The petition of H..J. Nelson of the Typewriter Shop at 1014 Court Street for transfer of license to Elmer Smith was granted on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R.P. Howel 1. Application of J. H. Hollister, for Booth Bros. for permit to recess curb and ramp sidewalk for a distance of 20 ft. on the south side of Higuera Street between Santa Rosa Street and Toro Street was granted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H.Brazil with the provision that work be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. Matter in connection with recreational activities continued. The City Engineer furnished the Council with an estimate of cost of a 4" cast iron water main on Lincoln Ave. from Chorro Street to Missiod Street and on Mission Street to pump line from Anholm well; total estimated cost $1634.60; also Engineer's estimate of cost of a 4" cast iron water main on Peach Street from Morro Street to Santa Rosa Street and on Osos Street from Peach'Street to Mill Street; total estimated cost, $1073.00. Matter was discussed and on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil the City Clerk was directed to advertise for bids for a carload of 4" cast iron water pipe bids to be received up to 7:30 o'clock P. M., June 3rd, 1940 at which time said bids will be publicly opened and read. There was discussion relative to the installation of a sodium vapor light at the intersecti --n of Marsh and Morro Streets. Unfinished matters continued. On motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by R.
