City Hall, Monday, July 22, 1940 - 7:30 P. M.
City- Council met in adjourned session - Mayor F. C. Kimball presiding.
Present: W.H.Brazil, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary
Absent: R. P. Fotvell
The following applications for permit to build were granted on motion of
W.H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy:
C. J. Weir - Residence and Shop - Blk 7 and pt of Blk 6, Caudill Tr. Cost 3500.00
H. L. & Bertha Kramer - Addn. - Lot 3, B]k 5, Weills Addn. 200.00
J. J. & Flora G. Romero - Guest House, Lot 102 Blk 152, Harford Addn. " 275.00
Mark M. Evans - Addn. - Lot 11, Blk 135, Phillips Addn. " 280.00
The application of Emma Kinney for permit to excavate driveway on Leff Street
between Osos Street and Morro Street in order to change position of garage was received
and on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy the matter was referred to the
Engineering Department for investigation and report to the Council.
The application of Joseph G. Rainey for permit to replace 50 feet of sidewalk
on the east side of Morro Street between Marsh and Pacific Streets, also, to change the
location of ramp for driveway, was granted on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by
Joseph Leary with the provision that work be done tinder the supervision of the City
Engineer.
The petition of Cline's Electric Shop for permit to install neon signs for the
Interstate Cafe and the Greyhound Stage Lines at 1009 Monterey Street was referred to the
Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report to the Council, on
motion duly seconded and carried.
The report of the City Treasurer for the month ending June 30th, 1940 was receivE
-1 and ordered filed.
A communication was received from Dr. E. M. Bingham, County Health - Officer,
relative to a poisoning project, under the supervision of thatdepartment, for the eradi-
cation of rats. Matter discussed and referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and
Safety for conference with Dr. Bingham and Earl Hanson for report and recommendation.
A communication from Fannie Anderson relative to light, etc. at the corner of
Kentucky Ave. and Murray Ave. was referred to the department of Public Works for inves-
tigation and report.
The Merchandising Bond of L. B. Price :Mercantile Company was ordered cancelled,-
the principal having fulfilled obligations under said bond.
A petition of F. L. Soule et al protesting the harsh blasts of the fire alarm
signal was received. Matter discussed and'the City Clerk was requested to communicate
with The Gamewell Company relative to modification of sound.
Assistant Superintendent of Streets, Leonard Langer, reported favorable action
on the application of Hilda Birra for permit to recess curb for driveway on the north side
of Mill Street between Chorro and Broad Streets.
The applications of John Y. Keleher for licenses for Billiards & Fool, Soft
Drinks and Cigars Sideline at 1006 Railroad Ave. were granted on motion of Wi H. Brazil,
seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy.
On motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Joseph Leary the application of John
Reed for license for the sale of books at 1021 Morro Street was denied.
Assistant City Engineer, Leonard Lenger, reported favorable action on the appli-
cation of Hilda Birra for permit to open street for sewer connection on Mill Street be-
tween Broad Street and Chorro Street.
