HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/21/194014 A. D. Church and Chas. J. Kelly, representing the Pacific Gas and Electric Co. appeared before the Council relative to a proposed street lighting project. Matter was discussed and it was moved by W. H. Brazil,.seconded by R. P. Howell, and carried that the City Attorney draw a contract covering a period of one year for the installation of 21 street lights as outlined in said project; that the Pacific Gas and Electric Co. be allowed the use of light standards on which to string six (6) vet.tical wires for their various services. It is further understood and agreed that the said street lighting system will consist of " 3000.00 eight (8) lights of 10,000 lumens at a monthly cost of 54.55 each, and, thirteen (13) The application lights of 6,000 lumens at a monthly cost of $3.36 each. The said 21!treet lights to be installed on Monterey Street between Osos Street and Chorro Street; Chorro Street between 1 Monterey Street and Higuera Street, and, on Higuera Street beteaeen Osos Street to Broad Street. It was moved by W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell, that Don W. Parts, Chief of rolice, be granted a six month's leave of absence,.without pay, beginning October 16th, 1940. Motion carried. Brazil the following applications or permit- to build were granted: R. H. Blaine - Residence and Garage, Lot 3, Blk 17, Anholm Addn. Cost $ 5000.00 el P. & Ruth G. Camp - Garage- house, Part of Lot 61 Blk 1, " 3000.00 e Jay - Garage, Part of Lot 15, Blk. 172, Dallidet kddn. " 200.00 The application of.Theo. Vega for license for Boarding House at 1716 Osos Str s referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report t the Council. The application of Tomie Jay for permit to recess curb for a distance of 8 feet for driveway on the North side of Islay Street between Osos and Santa Rosa Streets was re- ferred to the Commissioner of Public 'Works, with power to act, on motion of 1,11. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph 0. Kennedy. The application of Neon Sales and Service for permit to hang a double faced neon' sign for Elmer's Tower Cafe at 427 Higuera Street was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report to the Council. Communication from Maj. B. E. Morford, of the Salvation --rmy, relative to the. feeding of transients was laid over to the next meeting for further investigation. Ordinance No. 219 (New Series) - An Ordinance amending Section 75 of Ordinance INo. 76 (New Series) relating to shows and exhibitions was finally passed on motion of R.P. (Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil by the following vote: 1 1 r1 Ayes: W. H. Brazil, R. F. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent: None On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy the application of the 15 Assembly of God church for permit to construct sidewalk at Islay and Chorro Streets was granted with the provision that an 8 ft. sidewalk be laid in lieu of a 6 ft. sidewalk as petitioned for, and that the work be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. Motion carried. Re: Changing the method of parking cars on Palm Street between Osos and Santa Rosa Streets: It was decided by the Council that cars be permitted to park diagonally. on the south side of the street as formerly. Resolution No. 542 (New .Series) - A.Resolution appointing G. S.tocklausen as a Special policeman; was passed and adopted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W.H. Bra by the following vote: Ayes: W.H. Brazil, R. P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball Noes: Joseph Leary Absent: None The City Attorney was directed to bring a Resolution relative to a "Stop Sign" at Murray and Chorro Streets. On motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell it was ordered that Hollis Brown be named as a regular Police Officer at a salary of $125.00 per month as of November 1st9 1940. Motion carried. It was moved by W. H. Brazil, seconded by Joseph.Leary that B. J. Epperly be appointed "Acting Chief of Police" at a salary of X200.00 per month for a period of 60 da or less, appointment effective as of October 16th, 1940. Motion carried. It was-moved by R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H.. Brazil that the Council go on record as being in favor of Proposition No. 14 on the ballot for the November election regarding apportionment of certain monies to Political Subdivision for local purposes. Motion carried. Joseph Leary voted "lio ". Unfinished matters continued. On motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil the meeting adjourned.to Monday,October 26th, 1940 at 7:30 P. M.
