On motion of Joseph Leary. seoonded.-.byy_Ralph C. Kennedy, Billy F. Wells 313
was appointed Special Police Officer, under Ordinance No. 5 (New Series) Section 5.
On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by.Joseph Leary it was ordered Arley Gill
be appointed Acting Building Inspector, starting June 1, 1944 at a base pay of $200 per
month and to work under the supervision of the Department of Public Works.
On motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by Joseph Leary the meeting adjourned.

The City Council met in regular session - Mayor F. C. Kimball presiding.

The minutes of May 15th 1944 were read and approved as read.
On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan the following
building permits were granted:

The application of M. G. Santos to move building from part of Lot 4, Blk. 35
to a location outside the city limits was granted on motion of R.P.Howell, seconded by
Ralph C. Kennedy; work to be done under the supervision of the Building Inspector.
The building permit of W. L. Ramage to remodel store bldg. on part of Lots
3 & 4, Block 7 was not approved by the Building Inspector, and the application of C.
Sliter for garage on Lot 11, Block 173., Loomis Addition, which called for 2 x 3 studding,
did not comply with the building code; the above applications were referred to Commissioner
of Public :'forks for investigation.
The following applications for sidewalk and curbing were granted on motion of
R. P:: Howell, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan; work to be done under the supervision of the City

The application of the Southern Counties Gas Co. for permit to do certain
on Pismo St. between Morro and Broad Streets was granted on motion of R.P.Howell,
seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan.

on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. No location was given on
application).
The applications of C. R. Mortenson for Licenses for Mdse (Confectionery,
Lunch, Soft Drinks and Cigar Store at 998 Higuera St. was referred to the Commissioner of
Public Health and Safety for investigation and report, on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy,
seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan.
The following transfer of licenses were granted on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy,
seconded by Joseph Leary:
Transfer of license from W. M. Zellner for Mdse ( Sale Auto and Accessories) at 1255
Monterey St. to F. C. McGregor dba McGregor Motor Co.
Transfer of License from 0. K. Stout for Used Furn. License at 1115 Broad St. to
Ear W. Morris
Communication from M. Bonetti, Office of Price Administration, relative to
another two months services for Vera Russell as of May 21st, 1944 was approved on motion
of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by ?. P. Howell.

Claims against the city for the month of May 1944 were ordered paid, subject
to the approval of the heads of the respective departments and the Mayor.
Re : Communications from Kenneth Beck, City Engineer, relative to the fire
tower, also report of the condition of the Stenner Creek Bridge at'Murray Ave. was held
over.
Communication from the San Luis Obispo City School Board requesting city to
abandon all of Ida, and Pismo Streets in the Schwartz Addition; The City Attorney was
instructed to bring in a Resolution of Intentionto vacate the street, on.motion of R. P.
Howell, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan.
The communication from Mary F. Ritchey and Amelia Pedrizette re: trees along
the creek on Fig St. between Chorro and Morro St. was ordered received and filed for
future reference on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy.
Communication from the City Library addressed to Commissioner Joseph Leary
relative to repairs to city Library was ordered received and filed.
Communication received from the Pacific Gas and Electric Co.relative to the
City pumping plants to be discontinued; same was approved by Commissioner R.P.Howell and
letter was ordered filed.
Acting Building Inspector Arley Gill reported to the Council that the houses
ing constructed by H. E. Small in the Anholm Tract do not conform with the building codeq
was authorized by the Council to stop work on the structures unless they conform with
the building code.
On motion of R.P. Howell, seconded by Joseph Leary the Purchasing Agent was
thorized to make the following emergency purchase:
Three Ford pickups a $ 647.75 each
One Air compressor 430.84
One Regulator Valve for use in water system
Mayor Kimball appointed the following members to serve on the City Planning
