O'Nan Noes: Joseph Leary Absent: None On motion of F. C. Kimball, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan the City Attorney, •M. A. Fitzgerald and the City Engineer, Kenneth Beck, were appointed Ex- Officio members of the Planning Commission. On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan, Mayor F. C. Pt Lot 6, B1k 372 ^ 195.00 The following applications for sidewalk and curbing were granted on•motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan: Mrs. W. R. Hawkins - 50 ft. of 3 ft. sidewalk on the east side of Osos St. between Leff and Church Sts; also, construct retain- ing wall in front of above'property. Harry H. Sellars - 50 ft. of 5 ft. sidewalk on the N side of Center St. between Lincoln and Char ro Sts. The petitions filed by Clinets Electric Co. to hang a neon sign at 1129 Monterey St. for the Wideawake Cafe and at 1255 Monterey St. for McGregor Car Co. were referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety, with power to act, on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. The applications for business licenses filed by Al Calkins for Restaurant, Soft Drinks and Cigars Sideline at Higuera and Marsh Streets, were referred to the Com- missioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report on motion of R.P Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. Q 316 The application for a Palmistry license filed by Mary Koran was denied, on motion of R.P.Howell, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan. The application of James Witton for Mdse ( Books) at 848 Higuera St. was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report on motion of F.P. Howell, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan. The application of Fred L. Rakeman.for Club Dance at 1530 Monterey St. was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report, on motion of R.P. Howell, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan Notification from the State Board of Equalization received for "Beer and ',fine Wholesalers" license for H. P. L4aughan, dba Plough Bros. at 157 Higuera St. was ordered received and filed on motion of Joseph Leary seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. The bond of R. E. Heidorn as Police Capt. in the amount of $1000 with the U.S.Fidelity and Guaranty Co. as surety was approved by the Council on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by Joseph Leary. Communication from the Ryan Equipment Co. re: Street Sweeper was ordered received and filed. Communication received from the Police Depte and signed by all members of the department requesting salary increase was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety with instructions to contact cities of similar size regarding their pay schedules and report to the Council, on motion of R.P. Howell, seconded by Clyde T. U'Nan. Communication from Hollis Brown asking the Council that he be reinstated to active duty as t'olice Officer, and on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan, it was ordered that the leave of absence be cancelled as of date of active service. Communication from the Pacific Gas and Electric Co. together with contracts covering four pumping stations, and asr:ing that the contracts be signed, were re--:'erred to the Commissioner of Public Vforks and the City Attorney with instructions to prepare resolution authorizing signing same. .The City Clerk's report for the month of May.1944 was ordered filed. Yortenson for Mdse ( Confectionery, Lunch, Soft Drinks) and Cigars Sideline at 998 Higuera St. was granted pending an 0. K. from the Health Depte on motion of Josdph Leary, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, Re: Communication from Kenneth Beck relative to fire tower and Stenner Street Bridge- same were ordered filed. Communication from the San Luis Obispo City Schools re: Closing of streets in the Schwartz Addn. was held over awaiting Resolution of Intention. On motion of R.P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, it was ordered that the proposition offered by the County of San Luis Obispo to pay 50% of the cost of paving the 900 block on Osos St. in front of the County Court House be accepted, providing the contract is let.
