The following applications for business licenses for card tables as authorized by Ordinance No. 255 (New Series). were referred to the Commissioner of Finance for inves- tigation and report on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by R. Stockird as surety, was received and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan the surety was accepted, bond approved and license ordered issued. The following applications for contractor's licenses were received and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by Clyde T. The following applications for transfer of city licenses were referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety with power to act, on motion of Clyde T. O'Nan, seconded by R. P. Peirce. The following notifications from the State Board of Equalization were ordered received and filed on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan: License for Fred L Rakeman, dba Polly Cafe for "On Sale Beer" at 412 Higuera St. Transfer of "On Sale Beer" license from.4ames W. Wallace to Ida Mazza dba Midway Cafe at 995 Higuera St. Transfer of "Beer & Wine Wholesaler's" and "Distilled Spts: Wholesalers" license from Jordano Bros: Inc. to John, Frank, James and John Jordani, Jr. dba Jordan Bros. at 286 Higuera St. Communication received from Charles John Harris relative to information re- garding a Liquor License in the City of San Luis Obispo after the war; the City Clerk was instructed to advise Mr. Harris to file for a license when he is ready to open his (business here. Communication received from Walter B. Rose lip re: request for a gtension of 13 weeks for completion work on Osos St. paving contract and on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, the request was granted as of Sept. 9, 19449 Communication received from Kenneth Beck, City Engineer, recommending the Council to accept the work performed by Walter Roselip and has completed his contract as (per pans and specifications for the grading and repairing and repaving of Osos St. between Monterey and Palm Streets; on motion of R. P. Sowell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, it was ordered the work be accepted and warrant drawn for payment. A. postal card from Mrs. Betty Cotmen, together with petitions protesting the (passage of Ordinance No. 255 (New Series) licensing card tables was received and on motion lof R. P. Howell, seconded by Clyde T.-O'Nan they were ordered received and filed. The City Clerk's report for the month of August 1944 were ordered received and filed. 1 1 7 1 The applications for renewal of quarterly licenses for the.October 3 quarter were referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safetyfor investigation and report on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan: The application of W. M. Gaskell for permit to move bldg, from outside the city limits to Lot 2, Block 3 Norton Addn. was ordered filed for future reference on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. The petition of H. Rosenkranz at 1300 Pacific St. to open street for sewer outfall was again held over. The following business licenses were granted on motion of Joseph Leary, ' seconded by R. P. Howell: Yetta Bagley.- hidse ( Conf. Lunch Soft Drinks) 1177 Marsh St, Burt W. Polin - Operator's License -- Y -usic Vending Machines San Luis Wired Music ( M. H. Stearns) Operator's License - Mechanical Amusement Devices Re: Communication from the City Engineer, Kenneth Beck,'relative to the construction of a sludge pump or pit by the Southern Pacific Co. on their own property disapproving the location near the Easterly end of Alexander Ave., /together with-petition from the property owners in this District was ordered received and filed, on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by R. P. Howell. Communication from the San Luis Obispo Schools relative to the opening of Kentucky St. at the Southern Pacific right of way to pedestrian traffic and the petition from the residents of the Arlington and Phillips Addition making the same request was ordered received and filed for future reference. The City Attorney stating it is now oen to pedestrian travel and no action necessary at this•time. The communication from C. A. Maino relative to offer to purchase city owned property at Junction of Marsh and Higuera St. was denied and on motion of Ralph C.Kennedy,' seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan the City Clerk was instructed t:o return his check and inform him the property is not for sale at this time. Transfer of license for Wideawake Cafe was again held over. Mayor F. C. Kimball appointed Fred L. Gist as member of the Planning Com- mission to fill the vacancy of Andrew Bone. The appointment was approved on motion of Clyde T. O'Nan, seconded by R. P. Howell. Joseph Leary voting "No ". Joseph Leary moved that Section 1 of Ordinance No. 255 (New Series) wherein the annual license for card tables be X100 each) be eliminated from the ordinance. Motion lost for want of a second. On motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan, Commissioner Howell was instructed to bring in estimate covering cost of reconditioning Chorro St. for one block between Marsh and Pacific Streets.
