SPECIAL CALLED MEETING
The City Council met in a special called meeting; Mayor F.C.Kimball presiding.
Present: R.P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F.C. Kimball, Joseph Leary
Absent: Clyde T. O'Nan
The application of the American Legion Post 66 for license to operate
Carnival, The Dodge Greater Shows, from November 3rd to November 12th, 1944 was referred
to Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report..
The following'building permits.v:ere granted on motion of R. F. Howell,
seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy:
Mrs. Carmen H..Sworthout - Apt. - rear" of lot S. Blk. 66, Mission Orchard Cost $ 450.
Mason I. Bagley - Garage and sleeping room - Lot 1, Blk 38, Phillips Synd. " 4000
Virgil Welch - Service porch; Lot 2, Blk 80 " 100
On motion of R. F. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. 4nnedy the following
petitions were granted, work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineering
Department:
Southern Counties Gas Co. Repair and replace services where necessary at the
following locations:
Peach and Sta. Rosa Streets
1.1ill and Sta. Rosa Streets
Toro and Palm Streets .
Essex and Palm Streets
Pacific Gas and Electric Co. - To do certain pole work on Toro St. between Higuera
and Marsh Streets
The City t'reasurer's report for the month of Sept. 1944 was ordered received
and filed on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy.
The application of the Gold Room for license for -b'idse ( In connection with
Liquor Store) at 893 Monterey St. was granted on motion.of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph
C. Kennedy.
Notification from the State Board of Equalization for "Off Sale Distilled
Spirits" license for Morris Dorshkind & Reginald Bay dba "Gold Room Liquor Store" at
893 i.ionterey St. was ordered -receive.d and filed on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by
Ralph C. Kennedy.
The application-of E. C. Write for Parcel Delivery Service ( mailing address
Box 203 Atascadero, Calif.) was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety
for investigation and report.
The Merchandising Bond of 4'darren F. and Carl L. licClure in the amount of
$200 with "dim. A. Spurlock, John D. Upton, Susie Upton and Anna Gray Dexter as surety was
received and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by R. P. Howell, the surety was
accepted, bond approved and license ordered issued.
Communication from the Federal Works Agency addressed to Layor Kimball re:
offer to purchase the water facilities was read to the Council. They agreed the Mayor
should continue negotiations as outlined in communication.
Communication from Tj. S. Employment service re: alterations to the Municipal
31dg. at 738 Pismo St. was referred to the Commissioner of Finance for investigation and
report on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy.
The City Attorney was instructed to prepare resolution, authorizing the.City
Clerk to call for bids for rental of sewer farm property.
On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, the salary of the
City Engineer, Kenneth Beck, is to be $150 per month, base pay, as..of November; increase
to be paid out of Water Department.
